Still exhausted from helping Drumph with the debate prep.
Vae. Since you seemed to have missed the fine print, that image was posted by the GOP Judiciary Committee, in their official capacity, in support of a debunked, racist lie.

The only person I know that's been in the news for eating animal carcasses off the street, and proudly admitting it, is RFK Jr., who has a roadkill fridge I wouldn't doubt has seen a pet or two in its days and who just endorsed Trump. So there's that.
All in all, I think the more a country blinds itself to what's happening outside its borders and tries to wish problems away, the more it gets, by definition, blindsided by forces beyond its comprehension. But it's also just a miserable, mean, & exhausting worldview to always be paranoid & in constant fear and rage over what looks different.
By inviting the entire world to come here, whatever problems were happening outside the borders end up right outside your front door.
If thinking about economic and immigration issues results in "constant fear and rage," I guess we should just never discuss any issues then...?
It seems like obsessing over the last thing Trump said makes you guys "always be paranoid & in constant fear and rage," so maybe take your own advice.
RP must have a foreign source of cheap cattle fodder, produced with slave labour, to crank out his vast army of straw men. I don't even think a 100% tariff would put a dent in their ranks. If thinking about economic and immigration issues results in "constant fear and rage," I guess we should just never discuss any issues then...?
It's more honest than obsessing over purely racist, pet eating inventions. It seems like obsessing over the last thing Trump said makes you guys "always be paranoid & in constant fear and rage," so maybe take your own advice
A relatively poor Midwestern city of ~58k people just absorbed 15k Haitians (press estimate), with most of them arriving in the last 3-4 years. The talk about eating pets is moronic stuff, but you have to expect some tension resulting from the rapidly changing demographics there.
Local tension, sure.
A candidate for US president, spreading vile, dangerous, racist lies during a national debate, centred around who is suitable to hold the most powerful elected office in the world? There is no fucking excuse for that.
But then tRump lied about the voters TO the voters, falsely claiming that "everybody" wanted Roe v Wade overturned. Blatant bullshit. I guess that's OK now, right?
I'm not defending Donald Trump. I am pointing out a reason why Democrats ignore or belittle this issue at their own peril. It's as important as abortion this cycle.
The whole irony is that the magat blind rage and fear at illegal immigration and the border blinds them to the things that have made it a crisis to begin with, with the failure to actually pass a stronger border deal last year the big centerpiece, but in lots of little ways too that have contributed to it being a crisis, like ignoring regional security policy, not taking steps to disempower cartels, gangs, trafficking & the drug problem in the US, or not combating political and economic instability in the region, etc. And some of it, like the bad bounce back from the pandemic, are things that nobody can help but we have to respond to.
But I'd question that Democrats are ignoring or belittling the illegal immigration problem. Everybody in the country knows it's the central issue for the right and center, and they've been paying obsessive attention to it by force. I know every one of Democrat campaign ads in Texas are all and only about being tough on the border.
The problem is we're talking about low information voters that by definition won't even recognize that Democrats are focusing obsessively on the border.
And when the Democrats compromised to please the GOP with a bi-partisan border bill, far more draconian than most liberals would find acceptable, we all know who demanded it be ditched in favour of his own political future. tRump. The same asshole who whished for a stock-market crash and a great depression just so he can escape well deserved jail time.
Everyone knows that when Democrats talk tough on the border, they are lying. At least, any smart person knows.
Now even the cats are turning racist!...
I guess they've finally had enough of being finger-licking-good to the new arrivals!...
Sorry kitties!...Like in Haiti, the time has come where we must de-center pet privilege...
Oh the ducking and the cat hissing.
I expect dema can correct me but my understanding is that New York State law defines rape as solely involving a penis. E. Jean Carroll was unable to say whether Trump used his penis or a finger so the jury couldn't say it was rape. As you say, Judge Kaplan made it very clear that it was a rape and the State has subsequently updated the definition of rape.
Democrats are the only ones who can be pressured to do anything about it and they have been quite willing to sign a bill to deal with the issue, giving the Republicans a whole lot of the things that they ostensibly have wanted. Republicans blocked the bill. I wonder why? Maybe, just maybe it's because Republicans have no incentive to try to fix anything, because they want to keep it as an issue and because it benefits business.
Hi demagogue. I don't know how Democrats approach the issue in Texas, but here in the Northeast the prevailing attitude I hear from left leaning media and talking around the fire is indifferent and somewhat dismissive. My state just held primaries for Congress and governor on Tuesday, and in the Democratic races the candidates wouldn't talk about immigration.
I live close to Massachusetts, on the outskirts of the Boston media market, so I pay attention to what's going on there. MA has eight sanctuary cities and is the only state in the country to have a right to shelter law. Just a couple of years ago, most of the state was all-in on welcoming and resettling refugees. But the state's extensive system of shelters and temporary housing units ran out of capacity last year. So they've been using hotels, military barracks, and setting up temporary shelters where they can. But there's not enough for everyone. With so many migrants stuck in temporary housing, the state has been unable to find places for residents, and homelessness started surging this year as a result. In June, the Democratic governor literally declared "we're full", reminding me of a Aussie bumper sticker. She went to Washington begging for supplemental funding, and sent state workers to the southern border to spread the word that Massachusetts has no housing or services. The state had to change the shelter law to enact a length of stay limit, but still can't keep up. Meanwhile, there are a lot of voices in the left leaning Boston media and the state's Congressional delegation that still talk like it's all just xenophobic Republican hysteria. That's a problem.
I think most major cities are population stressed at this point because there just isn't any more housing, and those cities are the Democratic strongholds. It's not going to break the Democratic party in MA because the state is so blue. But in swing states, Democrats rely on urban turnout and can't afford a backlash against Biden administration immigration policies like I'm starting hear around parts of Boston.
What matters anyway is the opinion of swing voters in battleground states, and I'd want to see the data on that. I don't want to presume anything, but anyway that's where the focus should be.
But I can imagine how Dem ads & rhetoric will differ between red and blue states.
Texas is more purple than people realize, but still the Democrat candidates don't really announce their party and talk about going after "both parties", and the border is the main focus, but I'm ready to believe it's somewhat special to Texas, which has half of the entire Mexico border by itself, something like 1200 miles. What's really interesting to me is the swell of Latino support for Trump in Texas that's keeping it red (which I can also vouch for anecdotally; the Latino friends I have are the most rabid pro-Trump), presumably 2nd+ generation having a backlash against newer immigrants, but that's a whole other story.
I haven't looked into it in a while, but I think that's right. It's a similar reason Clinton quibbled that he "did not have sexual relations" with Monica Lewinsky. We work more on Japan law; only just last year we got the law amended so that legal rape includes the insertion of objects. But anyway, I think all jurisdictions always have that same issue and pressure to widen the definition over time.
Latino support for Trump doesn't surprise me at all. Machismo is big part of Latin American culture, and Latinos tend to be more religiously conservative than the overall population.
Harris's one "strength" if you can call it that is that a lot of Dem voters don't care who the puppet figurehead is, as long as they believe "someone" behind the scenes has a firm hand on the tiller. Maybe it's the bureaucratic employees, maybe it's the cabinet appointees, maybe they think Obama is still running things. I assume this is why nobody cared that Biden was a gibbering vegetable. They are voting for an overall liberal vision and worldview, not a specific person.
But this only works if things are going well. Your message can't be "Don't worry, this election will merely swap out the office furniture. The same competent team behind the scenes will still be there making things right, just as they have for the past four years" when the country is collapsing into ruin.
The only thing wrong with your second statement is that there is an assumption that there is a competent team behind the Biden administration.
Biden literally did nothing noteworthy during his term as president. Former vice presidents serving a term as president afterwards rarely amount to nothing more than attempting to carry the torch forward in a half-hearted way. Bush senior, a former vice president, might have led the nation during Desert Storm but I can't think of anything else he did that was noteworthy during his presidential term that I can remember. Al Gore, I suppose, invented the Internet so I guess that's noteworthy . Biden skipped a term to rest up to do nothing more than walk around the White House lawn with his caretaker while wearing out of style aviator sunglasses. One of the most important things for America is healthcare and Biden did nothing to try to fix the mess that Obama created (Punishing people financially for not having healthcare does not make healthcare affordable). So I wouldn't expect much from Harris other than an unconstitutional attempt to confiscate guns. She'll do nothing but talk in circles, enrich her stock portfolio and write a boring book afterward. Liberals will rejoice with the same sadistic fervor that Trump supporters did when he was elected because there is no concern for what a president could or will do during their term. The only thing going through voter's minds these days is either my team one or my team lost and that it won't matter to them after the hangover is gone because baseball season is right around the corner....
Harris doesn't have to do anything right, or anything at all, to secure the vote for most women. There will likely be conservative women voting for Harris as well literally for sexist reasons. My ex-wife literally couldn't tell me how the president actually gets elected but is super excited to see a woman as president regardless of party affiliation.
For this election cycle I don't think that it matters much if Trump or Harris is elected because neither are a good choice. One will make gun owners and major corporations happy and the other will make anit-gun nuts and major corporations happy. I think the people should focus more on who is controlling the house and the senate during this election cycle if you want to see any difference made even though so many of them are in the pockets of corporations themselves.
A president can't just "fix health care". You need legislation to do that. When Democrats have been in power and held both houses, they have focused on things like health care and infrastructure over fierce Republican opposition. When Republicans have been in power, they give themselves and their buddies a fat tax cut and run up the deficit with other stupid things like endless wars on taxpayer money. At least when Democrats spend the money on infrastructure, people other than the defence industry get something out of that.
I did not expect much from Brandon, but he did a lot more than I ever expected. He pulled out of Afghanistan finally. He lowered prescription drug prices. He got more than 40 million people some form of student debt relief. He cracked down on junk fees and overdraft charges. He signed the most massive infrastructure bill US has seen in a long while. He sold massive amounts of oil from the National reserve when the price was at its peak and then bought it back when the price tanked. He got railway workers their rest days. Before the start of the Ukraine war, he released US intelligence that severely undermined Russian propaganda efforts and got crucial aid for Ukraine to help defend their country. And that's not to mention all the mopping up he had to do after the mess Lord Dampnut left him with the botched pandemic response and whatnot. And finally, when push came to shove, he gave up power and stepped aside, something that's incredibly rare for a politician to do. I would never ever go as far as saying that I respect a politician, but this is one rare act that I will give full credit to. Especially in this world we have today where people run over democratic institutions and norms to increase their power and try to cling to it by any means possible.

This is what I said: "The allegation was sexual assault but the JUDGE called it rape. That didn't affect the judgement but it signalled what actually happened, in the opinion of the court."
This is one confirmation of the above. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...e-jean-carroll
And now, back to tRump's racist lies about Haitians eating pets, which are causing direct harm to the legal, immigrant population of Springfield and endangering all citizens there.
And yet tRump and Vance have doubled down on the lies, amplifying and spreading them. Trump is disgusting and anyone here defending him, making excuses for him or pretending to be "objective" about him is disgusting as well.
tRump is a convicted criminal, released on pre-sentencing conditions. Now he is threatening lives. Time to lock the shit-bag up, for public safety.
The anti-immigrant people don't really care about whether immigration is legal or illegal. It's just a code word meant to vilify the immigrants.
