Sorry if my question is stupid, but I have the impression that during the last few months, the number of online users has skyrocketed.
Everytime I log in, I see several thousands of online users according to the count located at the bottom of main page, and it's always like a few registered people + thousands of guests.
Did I miss something ? Is it a kind of bug or something ?
I'm wondering if these people are real, which would be amazing, or simply bots maybe ?

Yes, it seems to be a huge increase in AI related bots over the last while. By their nature they're trying to learn / index from everything which has been more of a nuisance than search engines (and those can be a pain at times).
