    The Cassanda Project Welcome

    Salut.

As is traditional, the team behind the mod have to make the first random post on a blank forum. Ah - the fear of the Tabla Rasa.

But still. We get over it.

Please free to use the forums to discuss whatever matters are related to the Cassandra Project you choose - feelings, vibes, whatever. Hell - have a running argument with our inherent philosophy and we won't care. Hell - we'll probably cheer you on.

    Laters,

    KG

    And welcome from me too.

The Cassandra Project is extremely happy to be hosted here on TTLG. We hope we can take advantage of the huge number of smart, thoughtful people that walk these halls, and who have a great understanding of the Looking Glass Aesthetic (a phrase which kieron must insert at least 4 times in every issue of gamer, lest we forget).

I hope you find something of interest in our little project.

    Hello my dears.

Interesting - I presume the total lack of concrete information about the mod is a deliberate attempt to whet our appetites?

Keep up the good work. This could be A Good Thing.

    Salut.

Well... there is /quite/ a bit of information. The Complete NPC list, while teaser-based, does actually give quite a bit about the people. The background to the world will grow, but certainly gives a taster of theme.

    Hmmm...

    Actually will start new thread.

    Goodness.

What a refreshing, serious tone this project (site) has. After months (I'm not an internet eldar, really) of merely watching the practical, American orientated gaming news and such on various sites, it really is a breath of fresh air. Congrats folks. And not an AYB joke in sight.

    Huzzah!

I really like the look of this MOD. I love the seriousnes of it and the cryptic sort of writing is excellent.

But i am unclear, what is the story to the game?

Oh and i love the pictures you have, and the Mission 1:Icarus 6 days etc things you have going. You've got me hooked.

This and MIDNIGHT are now my No1. Mods.

Thanks a lot, its nice to get some positive feedback, we've been working away without any public face for quite a while now, so its good to get some comments at last.

    >>And not an AYB joke in sight.<< I'm not sure we know what one is.

    >>This and MIDNIGHT are now my No1. Mods.<<
As coincidence would have it, we are loosely affiliated (their Lead, JD, is working on concept art for us). I agree, midnight does look very classy in its conception and execution. If only some more people would abandon their CS clones and go and help them out.

    >>But i am unclear, what is the story to the game?<<
Well to some extent, the story IS the game, so we cant give away too many specifics, but i'd imagine that over time, the site will build up a more detailed picture of the world in which Cassandra operates, and its purpose. Cant be too sure exactly how though, as controlling peoples access to (and concept of) the truth is going to be important.

You could always check the email, col.

I must say It´s looking very sweet, how far along are you?

If I may make one request, could you please, please crush every single cliche regarding female heroines? That´d be great.

Aha, now i see what those little icons are for. I'm not used to these UBB forums, we've been Delphi dwellers up till now (which sucks in all kinds of way, but does have its advantages)

I must say It´s looking very sweet, how far along are you?
Umm.. how long is a piece of string. I suppose we are reasonably into production, all major aspects (scripting, location design, modelling, coding etc) are being progressed, although at varying speeds. I suspect there is a fair way to go before the first episode yet, but hopefully subsequent episodes should follow more quickly as some much of the legwork will have been done. You would not believe how much having a female character complicates matters [wails: the hands! the hands!].

    On that subject
If I may make one request, could you please, please crush every single cliche regarding female heroines? That´d be great.
Ooh, tall order, we'll at least try and avoid them if not actually crush them all.

    Salut.

Re: Women cliches. Well, we're trying. And if you see us using them, think Subvert.

    Re: Midnight.
Yes, as Col notes, there's some cross-over between the two mods. The concept art JD is doing for Cassandra is just stunning and will be fun to show off soon. Equally, Midnight is one of the mods we feel closest thematically too. Just something a little bit different and unashamedly arty.

    Re: The World.
The Day after tomorrow. When you play it'll be clear that while it isn't today, it only extrapolates slightly forward from it. For example, news-papers will describe the possible near-future effects of current political/social happenings. On the surface, it will look like earth. But beneath the surface, horrific and wonderful thing are happening. Behind your sofa governments murder disidents, and you can't hear it over the blare of Popstars.

    Re: Plot/What you actually do.

Well... the original idea for Cassandra was that to do an episodal (More details in teh theory section of the site) thing featuring a female lead character with the same subject matter as Deus Ex (i.e. Conspiracy Theories).

So, following through a line of thought, the "stereotypical" episode of Cassandra would follow a path something along the lines of...

    Investigation
    Discovery
    Realisation
    Closure

(The format does borrow strongly from lots of serial dramas. X-files and Buffy will be the ones most people will recall, but weren't really the ones we were looking at. If you're a comic reader, structure would probably be closest to issues of Planetary - and that was purely accidental)

In other words, a major conspiracy theory per episode. The major links /between/ episodes would take the form of the slow burning overall mystery and the interactions of the members of the project. By having a reasonably sized cast who react to your adventures, hopefully we'll be able to dig at emotions better.

Gosh. I've made it sound quite dull.

This sounds very interesting indeed. Blasphemies a la Preacher coming, perhaps? One can only hope.

I trust that Kieron will use his mighty powers to get the Cassandra project distributed on Gamer?

    Salut.

Well... a few. More general offensiveness though, hitting just about any subject you can imagine. There's not much about religion at all in the first part.

And, yeah, it should be stuck on GAMER, assuming it doesn't go /too/ far for our coverdisk. At the worst, we may just have a censored edition people can patch from the website.

If so, can you say at this stage how big the respective downloads will be? Will you need to download anything before you can install the actual episodes?

    Salut.

No idea on size, to be honest. I get the feeling we're provide two versions - one with minimum speach and one with full speach - if it gets too high.

Only thing you'll need to download is the modloader, which we'll link to from the place. It's very small. I believe that you don't even need the SDK patch.
