Well I played it..hum..nice layout. but the rain ambient was to loud. I could barely hear the door locks or AIs walking. I never found all the loot. I got tired of making laps around the whole FM after 12 tries. 120 short on Expert. Plus you used a very large RoomBrush for the outside, which makes sound not work right.
I don't mean to sound picky or like I am cutting down your FM. It was pretty cool and kept me busy for an hour. My suggestion would be to either lower the loot goals or make the loot placement alittle easier.

All the loot is there, if you play expert then you should be a good taffer. The sound is ok on mine, the ambients are set to default.

I didn't have any problems with the sound when I tested it. I could hear all the door locks, AI, etc. just fine.

    thorin,

i finished with all secrets found, but i have a couple of questions:

can you get in the house that has the mask in the 2nd floor window?

what are the fire arrows for?

isn't thorin a dwarf in the Hobbit? that was the name of my D&D character 20 years ago.

i'd like to peep that loot list if you can send it to me.

    thanks. and nice work.

    Hi Thorin,

I played your "ring" FM last night. I had trouble actually finding the ring - where is it? I don't think I could get all of the keys either. I did like some of the secrets that I found, the one in front of Truart's in the ground - the big egg worth lots.
I was initally annoyed by the number of guards, but I persevered. It's actually too easy to set them off, making it difficult to sneak around. There's a problem where you go round the back of the little houses at the other end of the area where you start - you can KO the lady standing there, but whenever you try and sneak by both houses the guards come running for you every time - you might try limiting the radius of the electric light opposite. Maybe the guards' eyesight is a little too good. I think they all immediately go crazy the second they see you.
I'm not sure about other parts of the level because I ended up taking out most of the guards by letting them chase me to that hiding tunnel near the starting point (a little way east), sneaking out and knocking them senseless. I amassed quite a pile of guards, which was quite fun but not in the spirit of Theif!
There's still a bit of a problem with the portcullis (entrance to high town) - one of your guards needs to open both gates, but he gets stuck on the outermost one - I think it's the guard patrolling round the statue in front of Truart's.
The level does slow down a bit on my machine in the open areas, perhaps there are too many objects and AIs walking around?
Just one other thing, the ambient light seems a bit bright. A lot of the level is actually totally dark, but it doesn't look like it. It might be better to bring ambient light down and put more strategically placed lights in. I find I like lights that cast lots of shadows where you can hide, rather than just areas of dark.

These are only suggestions though, I was just trying to think of things that adversely affect the interest of the level. Actually, considering the build time, I think the level is pretty good. Obviously it must have taken level designers for thief2 months to do some of the game levels, so I expect you're doing pretty well. You've inspired me to try and finish a level anyway. Keep up the good work!
    waiting for your next effort...

Just curious, at thiefmissions.com there is an FM called The Ring by Thorin but the release date is September 20, 2001. Is this the same mission but with a typographical error regarding the release date?

There's only one FM called The Ring so it's the same thing.

thanks for the response. Someone might want to change the release date from 2001 to 2003 so it appears as a new FM in the missions site.

It's not new. The original release date was the 2001 one that you saw.
