Hello?
Edit. Fix for this mission here.
OK Taffers! I am having some problems with Business at Midnight.
1. I've been into Kourgan's Tower and now I can't stop flying everywhere. It's very frustrating. Is there any way to fix this?
2. I can't get into the evidence locker. I got the key to the evidence room, but can't get into the locked window.
3. I can't find Rupert's diary, maybe it's in the evidence locker...
4. I can't finish the loot objective.
I'm sure all you pros out there have figured this stuff out already...
BTW, I think the architecture in this level is A+!!!
So far, I've played 13 FM's including BIZMID.
Autumn in Lampfire Hills
Calendra's Cistern
The Death of Garrett
Lord Edmund Entertains!
The Vigil
Bloodstone Prison
The Order of the Vine
Turning the Tables
Cult of the Resurrection
Circle of Strain 1
Circle of Strain 2
Circle of Strain 3
Business at Midnight
I was tentative to play FM's at all, but now I'm hooked! Crazy respect for all the dromeders out there!!!
Hello?
Hello. Here are the answers to your questions:
1. I've been into Kourgan's Tower and now I can't stop flying everywhere. It's very frustrating. Is there any way to fix this?
No. I thought I had fixed this bug with the release of the level, but it pretty much effects everyone at some point if they enter the tower. Please believe me when I say that I am positively mortified by this bug, but once something is on Fileplanet there appears to be NO WAY to update it. Gah.
2. I can't get into the evidence locker. I got the key to the evidence room, but can't get into the locked window.
Look at that button on the other side of the window - you can almost reach it....if only you had something in your iventory to push it!
Explicit instructions follow:
Spoiler:Use a broadhead arrow to push the button.
3. I can't find Rupert's diary, maybe it's in the evidence locker...
Maybe!
4. I can't finish the loot objective.
There's lots of loot in Kourgan's manor, did you make sure to enter all the rooms?
DB
Dave,
Thanks for the help!
Great Mission!
ns
There is one building that I cannot get into, and since I do not have Rupert's body it must be the morgue. I can hear a "servant" inside. I have checked all the guards though it is hard to check them when they are laying down.
Any help would be great.
I have the same problem, but I can't understand your answer. Button? I don't see a button. Does the locked window have to be open to see the button? My first problem is that I can't unlock the window itself.2. I can't get into the evidence locker. I got the key to the evidence room, but can't get into the locked window.
Look at that button on the other side of the window - you can almost reach it....if only you had something in your iventory to push it!

If there is a button outside the window, I sure can't see it.
By the way, I know the combination (because I read it in another thread); but I cannot for the life of me figure out how the hint in the papyrus in Kourgan's room equates to the combination.
What's the trick?
Thanks,
Dafydd
My god, I can't believe people are still interested in this mission. Thanks guys.
OK here are your solutions:
To get into the evidence locker:
spoiler:You can bash open the locked window or pick the lock, and then push the button through the bars with your longbow arrow
The combination:
spoiler:The first number is the alphabetical location of the first letter of the symbol. For example, Earth is "E" which is the 5th letter of the alphabet, so "5" represents Earth. "F" is Fire (6), A is Air (1), etc.
You'll have to get used to the fact that people will be playing your mission for years to come. It still gets downloaded from thiefmissions.com a couple of times a week.
I made a dml fix for this mission (it wouldn't end)
Save this as miss21.mis.dml or download dml
Instructions how to install dmls (it's so easy, even I can do it)Code:DML1 //Fix for Business at Midnight not ending; also fixed a guard that can't be blackjacked since he's randomly losing his physics for no reason +ObjProp 836 "Scripts" { "Script 1" TrigRoomPlayer } +ObjProp 115 "TrapQVar" { "" =1:goal_state_3 } +Link 836 115 "ControlDevice" { } +ObjProp 115 "Scripts" { "Script 0" TrapSetQVar } +ObjProp 807 "PhysAIColl" { "" True } +ObjProp 807 "PhysAttr" { }

And another T1 mission fixed. Good for you Unna, at the rate your going you'll need to open your own repository
Unna,
I haven't heard anything about this mission for years.
Thank you so much for fixing it! These bugs drove me crazy.
You have done a great service to me, I thought that everyone had forgotten. I really, truly, genuinely appreciate it!
You're welcome. The mission deserved a fix
Unna's fix would appear to have a side effect though....
The super fun trampolining bug and the end of the mission appears to no longer work with the dml installed
You fixed the gravity bug too?
You really are an angel!
I think I'm going to do a developer walkthrough of this mission, there's only one other video of it on Youtube and he didn't enjoy it very much.
I wonder if people know about the guards investigating open doors and things of that nature...well only one way to find out! Demonstrate it!
With Unna's dml and NewDark 1.26 installed, I was able to play and finish this mission. Probably could have done it without using a hint from the forums on the switch puzzle in Kourgan‘s tower, but I was too impatient to figure out the solution myself. Finished on Normal in 58 minutes with 1505 of 1675 total loot.
Was it possible to mantle up the gates in front of the City Watch and Kourgan‘s manor before NewDark? I entered the manor before City Watch by mantling over the gate and then got the guard inside who has the key to open the front door by making noise outside.
The backstory, puzzles and AI tricks in Business at Midnight are well done. I especially liked the switch puzzle in Kourgan‘s tower and the floodlight controls in the City Watch. Not all of the environments are convincing: Some outside areas feel flat and empty. Some of the interiors are empty box rooms with rectangular angles. Both do not feel like believable environments. On the other hand, it is obvious a lot of effort went into building this City section with varied architectural structures and wall textures.
I don't think it was possible to climb over said gates in the original version played with "Old Dark". To get into the City watch compound, the player most likely is supposed to go into the sewers and find an entrance there. I usually did that. How exactly I entered Kourgan's mansion, I do not remember.
