    Japanese Missions

I can't get through sakura without crashing . I have all the latest Thief patches and darkloader 3.08 . Maybe this mission was meant to be played in dromed ?
I don't seem to be getting very far in Hammer and Garret or UFO either . Any ideas anyone ? These are real strange missions .

Yeah, I am having problems with them as well. In this one area I get chased by an invisible guard?

Well, the JIS missions are all for Thief Gold, so you may encounter strange things if you try to play them in ThiefDP, such as invisible guards.

As far as Sakura, this is the problem I was asking people for help with earlier - if anyone can figure out what's causing the crashes I'll fix it and release the fully fixed version (I already generously fixed the mission a lot)

    I started playing JIS's mission D, its for T2.

He used some of my objects but I didn't get credit.

Saturnine's health shield is also in my folder now so I guess it was used, but I didn't see credit for that either.

The question is, do you want credit for a scene involving a porcelain dunny in the middle of a room filled with lava Not exactly scaling the heights there is he?

seriously though, i agree non acknowledgement of others work in such a manner is pretty slack..

I got pretty far in UFO. I even made it to "Mr. Keeper of a friend's house." But I couldn't find enough loot for the mission to end. It was tough without any weapons.

I played Hammer & Garrett for a while and it was tough too. The shortage of weapons again bugged me. The inability to read Japanese didn't help either.

Haven't tried the others yet, and I probably won't unless I read some positive reports.

OK, I guess it's not just me that thinks a few of the Japanese missions are a bit off the wall. I always try to play them, but I always get frustrated with how un-thief-like they are and give up. It can't be just the inability to read the texts. I can go through most missions and frob every sign, book, scroll, papyrus, etc. without actually reading them and still get by.

I presume you asked the designer's permission if you could modify his/her FM, right?

I didn't "modify" ANYTHING! I just fixed the .zip folder arrangement. Don't worry about it anyway.

This looked like as good a place as any to ask a question about "D".

It's hard to do a search for "D" since you have to have at least a 3 letter word.

    anyway.....

I don't have a clue what to do after entering the lava/toidy area. I have a key and nowhere to use it. Is there something hiding in the lava? I'm too chicken to dive in.

Nightwalker has a loot list for UFO if you ask her nicely I'm sure she will send you it.

My philosophy on Japanese missions is to try for a little while then give up and forget about them. UfO is one of the better ones but most are just too bizarre and very unthiefy (if that is a word). I tried D recently and got totally stuck. But then again I could say that about most of JIS's missions.

Regarding "D" .....there is a previous thread with the help you require ...try searching under "japanese" rather than "D".

    Basically the
    spoiler:
key unlocks a lockbox in one of the lava flows that are not really lava but water.

    Only from Japan eh!!!!

I've finished D now. Once you have found the

    lock hidden in the lava
    its a breeze.

    Can't finish UFO

I found most of the loot and then went looking for a loot list and lukely was able to find all the loot without needing to restart as the loot list imply's might be necessary.

So I have all of the loot and I'm at the keepers house. I've jumped across the pit and gone upto the door through the wall and stood there and stood at the keepers house door while closed/open and stood in side in various places and the mission doesn't end.
Anyone know what you DO at the keepers house or in the vicinity to *end* the mission? I'm thinking I'm done and should just mark it finished but want to make sure I didn't miss something.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise. =)

Personally, I think some of the Japanese missions are worth a look, even if they are rather bizarre. I find it refreshing, provided you can actually complete the things.

BTW, the weirdest of the weird is probably Ochiru. "Ochiru" appears to translate as "fall" or "falling" (as in descent, not autumn) It's really small, and consists entirely of two rooms. You start on a platform above a tall room, with the entrance to the second room at the bottom. The entire goal appears to be to reach the second room alive. There is no way down except falling, and the drop is fatal.

Call me insane, but I kept retrying this mission about 20 times until I got it right. The trick involves the exploitation of a bug in Dark Engine physics.

I remember that one. I couldn't see any way down except jumping to my death! Great mission i thought! - Not!

What's this Physics bug that i can use, to my advantage, to get down to the other room?

    Sluggs

I'm only guessing at this but does it involve
    spoiler:
jumping into a corner and trying to slide down instead?

Heh, Ochiru is the only one of the Japanese missions that I've been able to complete. The solution was obvious to me from the start (as I'd come across this physics bug before) and I too just had to keep trying until I got it right. I guess that means that there's two insane people around here.

Right - I'm off to try the mission again.

    Make that three insane Taffer's!

    Sluggs

[EDIT]Damn it's for Thief Gold - I don't have it currently installed. I may try this mission later! [/EDIT]

A spoiler-hint in case you get stuck (don't read unless you are)

    spoiler:
There is an AI (a zombie I think) directly underneath the platform. If you fall and land on an AI, you will not take damage. It's tricky, but it can be done.

At least, that's how I did it.
