An incident I had last night.

Well I had an interesting incident occur. It was my first time that I encountered a situation where I had to /petition , in order to get the play nice policy enforced.

    Here's what happened:

I logged in with Narrok (my Necro) and was camped just out side the west freeport gates. I made my way in to freeport and back to the inn where Trissa Whistlesong is.
I was warned how camped this spawn can be.
Well that's fine, I've got alot of patients and I'm not greedy.
I get there, and there is one person camping her. A lvl 15 enchanter by the name of Augment.
I sit down in the corner and I start off by asking if he'd mind sharing the spawn and alternating. He flat out refuses and says that she is a 6 min spawn and by sharing her it would cut down his XP in half.
So I figured I'd ask him how long he'd be then and I'd be willing to wait for him to be finished. She says he need 3 bubs of xp, and then he'll leave. I ask him how how long that would be, and he responds 3 hours, that it takes him about 1 hour to gain 1 bub.
Three hours?? To me that is just unacceptable as I can only play for that amount of time. I explain to him that I'd be willing to share the spawn, as after all it will mean less xp for me too, at 12 min cylce as well. He goes on to say that he was there first, and therfore owns the spawn. He told me to go to oasis and get a group. I further explained that the reason I chose to play a Necromancer, was to avoid groups (as that is what I have done with my other characters, in that they all grouped up). With my Necro, I am taking the solo route and this spawn is one that I would like in on it. I explained to him that he doesn`t own the spawn and that we should be able to come up with a comprimise. His response was that if I don't leave he would call in his lvl 50 friends. I'm thinking it's due to him being worried that I would try to steal kill from him. I explained to him that he has nothing to worry that I would not attack Trissa until I have his permission to share the spawn. He again refused and said he'd bring in his friends.
I gave him one last chance and said that you have basically given me no chance and that I'd have to petition to get the help of a guide. He said that I should go ahead, that once his group is here, his explaination was that a group would nullfify the play nice rule, as a group takes precedence over a solo player. I told him to go ahead and use that argument and that this entire converstation has been logged, so I have the proof of what your attempting to do. He didn`t seem to care. So I went ahead and /peitioned and he brought in his friends. Actually just one person came to his aid. It was a lvl 15 wizard.
To end this long tale, the guide arrived and asked for our two sides. His big mistake was to attacking Trissa again, as the guide was there and talking. LOL that pissed the guide off.
Anyhow the entire time I was polite with both him before, and after when the guide showed. The guide agreed with my side and said that he did not own the spawn and that even with the group, we have to alternate. Augment and his group partner would take 1 spawn, and I (even as solo, would be considered a group) and take the next spawn etc..). He was extreamly upset and through tell threatned me, saying I was blacklisted with all his friends and spanning several guilds, according to him. He said that I'd better hope that he doesn't find who my other characters are, or he'd blacklist them as well.

The guide left and sent me a /tell to contact him if he breaks the conditions.

Heh, here is what gets a little funny. Augment thought he'd be smart and what I think he did, was told the wizard to ungroup and now there were three seperate groups sharing the spawn. Myself, Augment, and the wizard which makes it a 18 min spawn. I was fine with this, as I mentioned, I am not greedy. I am very willing to share the spawn. So I told him this. He didn't say anything. Then the wizard announced he had to to bank but would be back. He's KOS to north Freeport so he was heading to Neriak. So I figured we were back to 12 min spawns one each. But he then announced that the wizard gave him his spawns, which means he gets two in a row. LOL. I was going to get the guide back, but what happened next, was that Trissa actually managed to kill him. He got really upset and logged. Sigh. What a nightmare.

Actually the whole thing left a bit of bad taste in my mouth. Two things goes through my mind, at the aftermath. And I'd like to hear your opinons as to if did the correct thing.

I could have just left played as another character, rather then go through the hassle and trouble of /petitioning this guy. I really hate to have to do this to someone, but in his case he was just not co-operating at all. Was I right in doing this? I know that technically and leagally I was right. But was it still the right thing to do? At the same time, I was outraged inside and didn't want him to get away with this.
But what if I may have damaged our guild reputation a little in the process? Sure I was in the right, but who knows, this guy may have a lvl 60 character on an UBER guild in E'CI and have influence with many people and he can damage a guild by spreading HIS view of what happened, rather then the truth. It's possible and might not have been worth the trouble I went through. I doubt that will happen, as I suspect he'll just forget the whole thing ever happened. That is until I run into him again, as I'm sure he'll be back at Trissa when either I'm already there, or viceversa.

    Anyhow, that's my tale.

I really wouldnt worry Zan, people who whine to thier guilds and what-not about someone even demanding to share the spawn are taken with a grain of salt, anyone with half a brain knows that is EXACTLY what the PnP meant, and what it was made for. The wizzie probably left as much due to annoyance about the trivailty of the matter, as to actually needing to bank.

People who get blacklisted are ninja-looters, EXP holes (being AFK while grouped, almost constantly) Item stealers, people who do bad and ficticious /auctions, people who scream obsenities, and heh those who whine

    wait.. whining??? thats me.. argh!

Hmmm .. not sure if I side on you with this one Zan. I would be pretty bummed if someone showed up and shoved me out of a spawn. I know I don't own it, but I also know that I don't bother those that were there before me. It's just sort of understood. For all you know this guy has been running around Norrath for days looking for something to solo, only to be disappointed because everything is camped. He finally get's one, and somebody shows up and bumps him.

By the sounds of it, the guy was rude from the get go .. that set's me off every now and then too ..

In regards to rude people, I just have to share what I read the other day.

A high level druid, was constantly being badgered by begging newbies .. usually he ignores them, one in particular was not only persistant, but was rude about it. (The guy was obviously a real newbie .. or just plain gullable because he fell for the following)

Druid turns to beggar, and says .. fine I'll give you some money. To get it just target me and type /donation ... Well .. now .. I've never done this myself, and perhaps he was just making this up, but apparantly the act of targeting and typing /d is enough to have the newbie ask this Druid to Duel him .. apparently the rest is ignored. The Druid quickly accepts the duel, roots and Dots the newbie then walks away, as the newbie slowly dies. ( Heh .. this appeals to me ) .. Not because I'm a cruel person, but because I had someone beg me for stuff once, when I said "I don't deal with beggars" he replies with "Well f*ck you then" and walks away .. It took me a real long time to cool down after that .. now if I only had him accept my donation ..

nah, you did the right thing, zan, given the circumstances. the guy was being a prick. and i wouldn't worry about all his friends ganging up on us.

(and here's what you knew was coming ): if you choose to camp stuff like that, stuff like this is what you're going to have to deal with. she's a well-known XP source (things like which verant claims to try to reduce, but i haven't seen any real action on their part) that's going to be camped - easy XP. *shrug* nanny-nanny-boo-boo - that's what you get for camping shit :P

Aye, lookin through old posts, saw this one, In my opinion i think what you did was admirable, if i were you i would result with, "Oh yeah?!? Well, IM the leader of a WHOLE guild and we can whoop your butts ANYTIME, so there! HAHAHAHAHA!!!" Hope that makes you feel better.

Oops, I missed the replies in this as well

Samwise: Heh, well I never have, nor would I ever use my guild status as a tool in my favor.
It would have made things worse in this case anyway.

Chunder: I agree with you for the most part, in that I too would hate for someone to just come in and force me to share. (not that that would be a problem for me, as I always share, regardless the situation).
And to be honest, it was his attutude that made me peition him. It was the way he expressed himself and swore, barked, demanded etc. Had he been polite and simple asked me if I'd be willing to wait the three hours, hell I'd have not cared. I certainly wouldn`t have peitioned him.

Guys like this though, burns me up so much, I want to see justice prevail.
Heh, and I have to try that /donate trick
I've come across some a few deserving people that I could have used that "treatment" on

Altho this is a bit late for this Zan (I am catching up on old posts) I think you did the right thing also. It really comes down to the attitudes of the offenders in question. The guide must have seen a bad attitude in him because of the tell they gave to you, like they knew he was going to try something.

I will have to try that /donate thing. I would love to hit one of these level 3 newbie beggers with a 250+ DD!! Justice prevails! Altho a DoT is a lot more evil

Heh heh, the question is, how many newbies are actually still out there. I'd imagine some new sales are still happening, but I'd wager a good number of my pp that majority of the low level players in the game are experienced players that have started new characters.

Your best chance is to hope that person your trying this "Technique" on, is someone that doesn't duel often, so would not know about the /d command.

Heh, actually with all the changes happening to he UI (User interface), and new commands being added. More people might actually believe the /donate command actually works. heh heh

In my recent travels I have encountered two "newbies" One was a very nice low lvl Barbarian who helped me find my way through the Everfrost Peaks. He was very kind and I wish I could remember his name. I knew he had not played before, because he asked me how I got my last name.

The other newbie asked a similiar question however I do not remember the circumstances.

But then at one point I did encounter a lvl 35 something or other who asked, "What are these 6 boxes for on the bottom left side of the computer screen?" I knew something was wrong before he asked that question, he wasn't playing his char very well. And then I knew, it wasn't his char, or maybe it was now, but he is not the one who got it 35.

No offense to any guildmates, but when you are "given" a high lvl char, you haven't gone through the "training" to get the char high lvl. I don't like grouping with those people, they don't know how to play the char propery and will ALWAYS get you killed.

once you get level 20 you use the /surname command. just do /surname <last_name_here> be warned that you can't easily change it once you have decided, so spend some time thinking of a good name

Just to add a quick note to that. For reasons unknown, even using the /surname command, may not work. Zan just reached 20 not to long back, and I chose the surname Nightsoul, and the /surname command would not accept the name for whatever reason.
In that case you have to /petition and speak with a GM, who should be able to give you the name.

I guess I dont know how to play my character

I do know where you're coming from Fedily, though, I wasnt coming from never playing the game. I had basically a whole year of EQ playing behind me when I got hold of Garamor.

But of course Gara, you had to learn the fighting styles and such of a high level monk, just the same.

But it seems like you have learned it well, but I believe Fed was refering to the stupid newbie E-bay buying freaks out there that want it all fast.

Well, when it comes to obtaining an instant high level character like the monk, their really isn't all the much to learn. You figure out a few moves and how to pull using feign death, and that's it. It would be pretty much the same for any meelee character, such as Warrior, Rogue, etc.. Farily easy to master.

On the other hand, if you were to say get an instant lvl 50 Necro. That would be difficult and require alot of work to learn to properly play him. Necro's have so many spells and techniques to using their spells etc. It's hard to master, if you haven't grown with the character. (I'm obviously not speaking out of experience, but more out of what I've read on the Necro forum, for this very topic.). Anyhow, it's not just the necro , but most caster classes, would require alot more work to learn how to properly play that class.

Well, I don't think you want me to "go there" but I was the victim of some of your earlier pulling mistakes (feign death before you pull the mobs to me not after) I haven't played with you recently, I hope you are doing a better job.
