    The Restored Cathedral v1.1

The Restored Cathedral v1.1 is here at last!

This is a major update. It has:
    • Much much dimmer lighting than before. The rooms are now nice and mellow, with plenty of shadows to hide in.
    • Far more guards. On maximum difficulty, you will be hard pressed to get by without killing anyone, but it can be done.
    • A lot more loot. Now you can collect over 2000g.
    • A completely new ending.
    • And ... the cloister area has been transformed into a vast open garden area.

So - ready your blackjack and let the mayhem begin.

PS: A big big thankyou to all my beta testers!

I'd play it if I had less work to do!

i've already played the original, so are the changes significant enough to alter the playing experience a second time?

  5. #5
Yes, the FM now has far far better gameplay!

The old version's lighting was far too bright and had hardly and loot or AIs.

It was a beautiful restoration job before, but didn't really have a lot to do. It's much more fun to play, this time around, and worth taking the time to go through it again, even if you played the first release. Great job, Zaccheus!

Very Cool *Zaccheus* that you offer your screenshot-site also in german.

I'm just downloading your FM... you have really aroused my curiosity...

    Darn,

Already stuck. Could I get a hint on the

    spoiler:
key location for the door at the rear of the basement? I figure the eye must be behind it

    spoiler:
I thought maybe would be explosives in the attic\armory (from one of the scrolls or books)(maybe blow the inner basement door if theres no key), but can't seem to find the attic. Been way up there, even up the elevator. Stacked a couple of boxes on the balconey, got up on the roof, doesn't seem to be the way either.

Playing on easy, ain't that a shame?

    Thanks, Jim B.

This is a really neat mission. Am dreading when I move up in the difficulties, bet them AI won't be so easy to knock out or sneak up then. I hope there won't be spooks either. Last months PCGamer had an article on the scariest PC games. They didn't even mention the Thief series. To me, this stuff is a lot scarier than the games they mentioned. Jim B.

Never mind guys, I found the way.

    spoiler:
used the holy water on the red energy curtain, within frobbed the skull, got a vault key. Key opens the inner basement door. Eye flies out to over the hammer alter. used rop arrow to get close enough to get it. Went out the same as starting point. That whispering scared the crap out of me at the end. I just knew a pile of undead had been unleashed. Now to move on to the next difficulty.

    Thanks, Jim B.

This was a GREAT fun to play this fm. Thanks *Zaccheus* and thanks Christine for the german texts.

Though the cathedral looks bright and glory now it still frightened me to visit all the places because I always remembered the OM. Cool feeling !!!

Yes, thanks for your help Christine!
(She supplied me with all kinds of German Thief files which I needed. With these files I was then able to translate the FM into German).

Dinksmallwood, I'm glad to hear you liked it.

Can anyone confirm if it works with T1 + TG patch. V1.0 required Thief Gold.

Ar-Zimrathon (one of my German beta testers) ran it successfully on Thief1 even without the patch, but I don't know what happens to 'ThiefGold only objects' when you do that.

I think the only ThiefGold stuff I have used is the fancy opera wall lights (shown on the screenshot "St.Yora's foyer") and the opera chandelier (e.g. on the ceiling of St.Yora's dining hall). Both should be included in the TG patch.

The mission is now a standalone Miss22.mis, with its mission specific files (maps, goals, etc) supplied with the FM, so perhaps that helps.

Let me know if it works.

Yes Zaccheus it can be done on Hard w/out killing anybody. I jacked every mutha in the place but didn't need to put out a single torch. I used only one moss arrow (accoltye guy who circles around in the little room) and only one flashbomb (two dudes in the dining room alcoves -IIRC though I took those two out back in the first version without needing to use a flash) cause my neice was on my lap playing it w/me.

Yes it was much tougher to complete this time so very good work (still would've liked to visit the rest of the level areas from the original though). My only other complaint is that the two guarding the alter can see above AND behind themselves in a very unrealistic way probably due to them being on extremely high alert. Yet if you forward leanjack the one on the left the other guy doesn't even notice the body!

I'm not 100% sure but isn't there a holy water vial in the locked library room?

    My compliments to the chef...

Zaccheus, I played through it this weekend, and I just wanted to say how nice a job you did with it. It was kind of weird being in the Cathedral again and not having debris and undead everywhere.... but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Great job!

Are you still planning a T2 version with mechanists?

I didn't have to do this.... I just
    spoiler:
chased the Eye, knowing from reading scrolls what it would do, and managed to grab it just as it got to (I think) the staircase leading up from the basement....
Zaccheus, did you intend for this to be possible?

I just got around to finishing the level a few days
ago and I must say finding the Eye was the freakiest part!
Honestly, if I were Garrett, I would toast the thing with a fire arrow-NEVER TRUST TALKING ROCKS!

I knew it was possible, but it can be quite tricky.
