Let's make map guides for Thievery Maps for N00bs!

Like the title says, I (in my infinite wisdom) have decreed that the Thievery team needs to use the Map Guides section of our webpage.

I am asking you obssessive types to make guides for the maps.

Why can't we do it, you ask? Well, we're busy. And quite frankly, as the maker of one of the maps, i'm amazed at some of the ideas you folks have had when it comes to playing. You've thought of things to do in my map i had never thought about. Bravo.

However, the n00bs are lost. You can feel it, can't you? yes....

So this is what we're going to do. We need a guide for each of the maps. That is, we need:

    • a comprehensive EASY TO UNDERSTAND map of the level.
    • locations of loot
    • locations of guards and their patrols
    • explanation of objectives
    • recommended, and not so recommended, routes to and fro to get the objectives.

    Those are the BASICS.

Now, i'm going to read and sift through these guides (well, maybe me and someone else ). The best ones will go on the website WITH CREDIT TO THE WRITER. as such, you can add the following in, to make it even better (and the ultimate winner is the community, as new players with a clue = more fun playing):

    • screenshots (F9, they get dumped in your UT/system directory as BMPs, pls change to JPGs if possible) of CRITICAL POINTS on the maps. Exit points, choke points, common camp (ahem, guard) spots.
    • quality descriptions of paths, loadouts, tricks and treats for Thieves
    • same thing for guards
    • background info on the map within the confines of the "Thievery Universe" (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get in touch with a dev [preferably the maker of the map] if you attempt this one.

That's it. if you are giving multiple files, ZIP or RAR them up (i have a limit to what size files i can accept, so if it's too big, send it to me on IRC, files are always accepted as long as the file name is unique [add your nick and the date]). My email is:

    zacl@excite.com

I will read through them all. The best will be chosen and put on the website for public consumption, as well as announced on the forums for those of you who don't check the website every day for updates .

This is your chance to make an impact in Thievery and to show your m4d skillz0rz to the rest of the forums, show us devs how it's done!

Feel free to post with suggestions/questions/to get dibs on your favorite map

I have maps made for Aquatone Patched, Gerome, and Nostalgia HERE .

If anyone would like to use these for the map part ....PM me. Or if you would like me to create the map part for you on the ones I haven't finished yet....PM me. I slacked off and haven't finished all the maps yet like I was planning on doing (hehe, to busy playing Thievery), but have a few more in the works. I can make the maps but have no real time\patience for adding the tips and loot and objectives stuff.

NeoPendragon did a nice job with Nostalgia adding loot locations and tips to one of mine.

Vesper..........thanks Salvage for hosting my maps.

Please! for the love of anyone's god. Don't use flash or any of that animated shit. (That's not for me to decide but anyway I wouldn't want the guides to be in animated format, I prefer just text)

    No PowerPoint, either.

I don't mind flash so much, but you may want to avoid it just so you don't incur Omega's wrath. Also, flash would make things difficult if a newbie wanted to save the info to his hard drive or print it out. Yes, there are ways of doing this, but these are "newbies" we're talking about.

I've already done this for Darkened Enlightenment and Skelston Head. Three weeks ago, I thought it would be a good idea to do this. I've drawn maps, plotted where the ai patrol, marked all the loot in the map, and made neccessary notes. Oh well. I was going to put this on my website, but since I had a lack of support for my site, I'm not putting it up (on my site).

Heh.. I have signatures turned off, after some dude had a 10 line long one. You'd see this one line of text, then a whole paragraph of shit...

    text and JPGs.

the guide will be put on the ThieveryUT website, written into the HTML.

Flash guides will be too large, too difficult to use as a reference, and have the potential of being tacky. PowerPoint is worthless to those without the program (read: me), and as such, would almost certainly be disregarded. nothing personal, but if i can't read it, i'm not gonna put it on the website.

Simple is better. Style is nice and good, and would be a plus. But FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT is content. the guides need to be full to the absolute brim with content that is relevant and helpful. Bells and whistles are great, but even the best thief will get caught if he uses them

Poseur: send those to me if you can.
