    New forum!

We're thinking of setting up a dedicated Thievery forum, instead of the single category we have here at TTLG. This is for a number of reasons.. firstly, there's a few things we can't do at this forum because we don't have access to the admin panel (understandably so, this would give us free reign over all of TTLG's forums). Given the influx of troublemakers we have here sometimes, we need to be able to sort things out quickly (avoiding situations like we had a few days ago, where Thwark spent an hour deleting spam because he couldn't ban the user).

Secondly, it would let us turn on some fun things such as personal avatars and custom smilies. We could also organise things better, e.g. putting all the FAQs in their own forum.

ThieveryUT.com is also a very fast server, so the new forums would likely load quicker (and wouldn't be affected by any TTLG downtime).

The downside is that everyone would have to sign up to the forums again. How do you feel about this?

I would sign up, but I kinda like having all my favorite forums in one place.

Still, that's a small price to pay. I support the motion.

    I think it's a very good idea!

I was thinking lately that when I'll begin working next week, I could buy myself a domain and make a forum. I even suggested the idea earlier in :

    http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthrea...threadid=61850

    I totally agree with it.

But you'll have to make me a mod, or I'll switch to counter strike.

To be honest, I don't really care. I feel fine here at ttlg, but visiting one extra forum per day wouldn't be too much of a hassle (and one that I'd gladly take on for Thievery ). Though it sure is convenient to have one less tab to watch... so, in short, I don't really care that much, but I'd rather vote for staying here. The spamming pricks will always be there. At the moment, it might be a lot, but it probably won't stay like that forever.
And even with the occasional downtimes - I've come to like ttlg as it is. I feel sort of at home here.
You're doing a good job as it is, and it's your decision after all. Thanks for asking, though.

    [edit]
Oh, and moving the TUT forum somewhere else would give me one less opportunity to up my posting count on ttlg.

When I mentioned the idea to MsLedd she said that we could keep our forum listed on the TTLG forums index, just clicking it would take you to our custom forum. So you could still browse everything from TTLG if you wished.

It seems to me this thread is perfectly suited for a poll.

I'd be all for a new board, particularly if there could be different forums devoted to different aspects of Thievery. For instance, a general discussion forum, a community forum, a forum for mapping questions and issues, etc.

Would it be possible to bring the existing threads over into the new board?

    Meh

Seeing as I don't frequent the rest of these boards, I'm really ok with that. Kinda pissed that I've finally gotten above new member status, and NOW you do it though :P. Kewl idea in general.

It might not be possible/easy enough to port all the threads over due to the sheer size of TTLG's forum database. I'm waiting for MsLedd's word on that. Failing a port, I expect TTLG would be kind enough to keep all our threads here in their archives.

    Yeah, I like the idea!
Are you sticking to vBulletin, or do you want to try something new (like phpBB) ?!

And what's pretty cool, is that you can make the forum look like the ThieveryUT-site with a custom skin.

OMG my endless whining to twark finaly helped! '

    It's a great idea
You can have different kinds of sections and things would be better to orientate. ( spelling ?!? )

    - General TUT discusion.
    - OT forum.
    - Mapping forum. ( for ued questions and map anouncements [ spelling ?!? ] )
    - Suggestion forum.
    - Whine forum ( for mad gerbil )
    - Guild forum
    - Admin forum ( server questions and anouncements [ spelling ?!? ] )
    - Trouble Shooting forum. ( For technical [ spelling ?!? ] questions )
    - etc.

Anyways, a poll would be nice indeed in this thread

[ And do put avaters on in the next forum, and also the automatic signature ]

damn..i finally got over 1000 posts ...dalai you better make me super man if you get that new forum cause i want my posts!

but really that sounds good but if you do that there are a few suggestions i have:

    1. for catagories make sure toe have : general, editing, ideas + concepts (that's where mad gerbil will go ) , and maybe a section for guild's general stuff
    2. will you then get rid of this one or have the link on ttlg redirect to your forum? i really don't want the new forum AND this one to be up cause that would confuse the living shit out of me
    3. better smileis...thief smilies!!!!
    4. maybe make more post names ...i mean like when u reach 50 be taffer, 200 be dark taffer, 1000 evil thief or something, 10000 darkproject ...yo can start me off with that one
    5. make sure those crazy tut mappers visit frequently so they can help me with all the problems i have and i won't have to piss thwark off with all my questions.
    6. make it dark colors....for the builder's sake don't use white or purple!....or green..i don't think green works well on forums unless it's very dark green.

.................... now i'm waiting for a reply here dalai...you better have read my suggestions or i'll be making you an upside down pink bunny in my next map!

Actually, I was totally hoping this would happen.

Any room for an extra mod?

For those of you worried about your post counts, don't worry, I can always restore them at the new forum.

Thanks for offering, but we won't be in need of any new mods at the moment. Thwark and I can handle the current amount of traffic easily.

Suggestions noted, DarkProject. We wouldn't have two forums running at once, if the new one goes up, this one would be shut down.
