, thief crashed and I was back on my Desktop. Any help?

At the beginning, you can either go up the pipe on the tavern, or as I did, find a door that you can open (turn right at the beginning, and go down a little way and you will come to a door on the left that you can open) in here there are barrels, and a sewer opening in the floor, jump into the sewers and follow them till you get to a floating box. Jump on the box, look up and shoot a rope arrow through the hope in the ceiling and climb the rope into the tavern. Hope that helps.

    Secret?

    spoiler:
I have read from other posts that there is a zombie somewhere in this mission and in his hand he has a ring which counts as a secret. Where can I find this zombie?

    Hanky

OK, I'm playing on "all hints".

I've succeeded at all goals except poisoning the Lord.

    spoiler:
I got the hanky - where's this "baby burrick" you're supposed to use to turn it into a smelly hanky?

    Thanks!

    To answer my own question:

    spoiler:
The baby burrick is in Room 3.

    spoiler:
Naturally, I had already awakened its occupant. It was quite a challenge to get in, "spoil" the hanky, get out, use the hanky on the Lord, and avoid various sleepwalking characters on my way to the bell and the lady, but I was ultimately successful.

    heyas;

did you guys on slow links try using dap? that lets you resume; that's how i got mine, and the low-end movies.

killer mission, as i'm sure you all know :)

i'm playing on medium (some hints), and some things i think i've almost figured out.... there are plenty of in-game hints, if you read stuff, though :)

i'm having one problem with lady verwhatshername: (now where's this blasted spoiler code...?)

    spoiler:

i figured out to switch the ice lady's ice pick with the fire wand, which ought to cause quite a show at her next sculpting fete. i've got the fire wand, and i brought it to her room... but what on earth do i do with it? i can't put or drop it into her toolbox. i tried sticking it in the toolbox (open or closed), the chest, on the letter, or on her. it just won't go.

    bloodsong - Hint:
    spoiler:
You've missed a step. You have to find a way to make the fire wand LOOK like her ice pick.

    Spoiler -
    spoiler:
Take it to the blacksmith and he'll do the transformation for you.

    spoiler:
The firewand and chisel look similar, but not enough to fool her. Go to your weaponsmith friend (Skaz?) and he will disguise it for you. Then you can put it back into the toolbox. Skaz's shop is near the inn, look for a short deadend with a wooden door around near the back of the inn.

I beat it on No Hints, completed all objectives including the All-Loot Bonus I even got that guy to faint without the
    spoiler:
    smelly hanky
    or the
    spoiler:
    poison
in the wine. I just walked up to him and he fainted. I then got Dante's "smelly" line. I was surprised, but decided it was a good thing because he was about to catch me anyway. Can ANYONE tell me what the "Special" Shake does? That's the only thing I havn't been able to figure out.

EDIT: Added some spoiler tags, as seems to be the fashion

    spoiler:
It is apparently yet another way to knock out the politician. I'm not sure why there are three ways. Seems like overkill. Go to the kitchen and swap the wine for the shake. He won't be waking up in time for his meeting and Fang will have another regular!

Does anyone know if there is a difference between these three ways? Is there a "best" way to complete this objective or is it just personal preference?

    spoiler:
Rat poison was simplest in my opinion. Just find it and dose the wine. The smelly hanky was a little confusing, but not hard and gave instant results. The shake was a little more complicated, especially since he drops in a room with several guards, but it is still quite doable. Does anyone know which is preferable?

    d'oh!

    thanks, nightwalker. :)

i'm gonna end up re-starting on all-hints mode! i mean, i've figured out what i'm supposed to TRY to do, but HOW to do things... i'm still working on.

or, i could just waltz through the thread, reading all the spoilers... (but where's the fun in that?)

The best way to make Pearsall sick? That's an easy one.

Poision the crackshake and replace the wine using the stinky hanky as a coaster. Works like a charm but it makes your eyes water something wicked.

Finally got the mission downloaded and spent last night playing it through on No Hints. The original Gathering at the Bar is one of few missions I've played more than once and it's also the first FM I ever played, so GATI felt nicely nostalgic while at the same time kept my interest up by having new places to explore and puzzles to figure out. Heh, and I actually laughed out loud in several places, listening to some conversations and new voices.

One thing though... Does anyone else think that the baby burrick looks an awful lot like the baby alien form Alien?

All in all, a very enjoyable mission. Well done, team CoSaS! I have a feeling I'll play this one more than once.

Is it possible to ghost this mission AND get all the loot? I don't see how that could be done. Also, when you've taken LeBlanc's map, the text mensions 'something extra'. Anyone know what this 'extra' is?

  21. #71
It is indeed possible to ghost the mission and get all the loot. I managed to do so yesterday. And I'm by far not an experienced ghoster. I love my blackjack

    Here are some tips:

    spoiler:
As always, the more familiar you are with the mission's layout, the easier it gets to ghost. You don't need a single water arrow to finish the mission.
Enter the bar by climbing onto the roof and entering through the chimney. One of the fires doesn't hurt Dante if you're fast enough. You'll then end up in the "gardener's" room.
The secret corridor that connects two guest rooms comes in extremely handy, especially because you can sneak behind a guard who stands directly in front of a lit torch.
Avoiding the patrolling guards in the bar needs some luck. Sometimes I had to wait several minutes until there was a hole big enough to sneak past them unnoticed.

    About the "extra":
    spoiler:
Replace the mining map with another one

OK, now I only have to find the last pocket to pick. I've taken the purse from the stationary guard, and the key, but were's the third?

Ouch. What happens is that Thief goes into a kick-ass cutscene mode... this is one of the reasons you're supposed to play on a FRESH BOOT. I suggest turning -off- your comp, turning it back on.. and when windows boots up, turn off damn enar everything except explorer (like AIM, Antivirus, etc) and run T2.

If that doesn't work, i'm not sure what to say. I'm runnign a realativly low end system and it all worked fine for me.

    movies not playing

Yay, ttlg is up! And what do I see! CoSaS!

I downloaded the movies version, but I didn't get a briefing when I started the game. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or do I need to download the movies separately anyway? :-( Please help!

Are you using XP? If you are, then you need to re-install the codecs every time you boot or reboot your computer, if you want to play the movies. See the FAQ at the top of the Thief General Discussion Forum for more information, if this is the case.
