Relic - Left for Dead Mar. 21/03

    Cheap Thiefmissions Thanks Jason

    Mission Description:
  2. You awake from a shallow grave, you have foggy memories at best but it seems as though somebody has
tried to do you in but failed. You're in a strange swamp with no idea of how you got here or where
"here" is. Just the vague memories that came rushing back before you awoke.

First things first, find out where you are and who did this to you, then take your revenge.

  3. The mission is non-linear with many paths to choose from. More objectives become visible as you play.
Wandering through a swamp, forest, caves and Keeper compound you will have many opportunities for finding stashes of loot.

Already started playing (I stopped by the Cheap site by chance), and I'm just awestruck so far.

"Creative" is quite an understatement, this has to be one of the most original concepts I've ever seen.

    Love the lockpicks!

Congratulations on releasing the mission, Schwaa!

This one is beautifully constructed, engrossing mission. I was privileged to be one of the alpha/betatesters and even after playing through it a number of times, it's still fun to explore.

    Thanks everyone

Unfortunately after all that work trying to release a finished mission I realized a bug this morning. Nothing big and it really won't effect gameplay but I'm uploading a patch so if you could waiit a little while before Dling it.

Some robot parts can be picked up and they say "Mech Drill" as a name. The original robot parts were making Ai's freak out becuase they were "dead". Also, one of the robots model didn't get changed so a mech drill is hangin 2 feet off of the ground.

    I'll post when its fixed.

Oh yeah, not that i forgot but I will mention:
Nightwalker was a GREAT help during testin (along with the other testers) and she deffinately talked me into making some changes that would save you all some major frustrations. So you can be thankful to her for making it more fun

The copy of themission at my site (which I suspect is the only one up for download) has been updated. I count 44 downloads of the old version. If your version is not 24985203 bytes in length, you have the old one.

Note that the download link in the original message is wrong, but I made a symlink so it will work. It's supposed to be http://thief.math.uh.edu/missions/Left4Dead.zip

Doh, already fixed by the time I posted this.

Thanks Preno hopefully it will be twice as good

I've learned alot since then and have used alot more S&R, Conversations. I worked on the storyline quite a bit more too. No incvisible spots on AI's and objects... Crom's is in serious need of that update that I've never finished yet.

Holy shitE! Talk about UNIQUE! Great FM Shcwaa!

Oh and I need some help... The Pagan's house section, if you look through the window, you can see another Pagan doing God know's what. Any way to get there? And those horned beasts, no way to KO them? And what's with the waving arms but no damage being done to me?

    1) Rope arrow.

    2) Those are treebeasts...blackjacks don't work on trees. Think of what could hurt a tree.

    Pagans
    spoiler:
Over the roof or through the window, stand on crate/ crouch/ crawl through

    Trickster
    spoiler:
He doesn't like to behave that's for sure, did he run away yet? He's supposed to run...

Oh, do you mean the treebeasts, fire arrows work if you need to. Its not their fault they're nasty.

I was talking about those horned creatures with flame/gas surrounding their right hand. I can't KO them and they always run off diseppearing after a few seconds of running around and waving their arms. Are they suppose to cause NO damage?

Heh, and after Garrett wakes up and the FMV "MISSION COMPLETE" appeared, I thought Shcwaa messed his zip file up! (Thanks for the quick reply)

    spoiler:
Oh good, they are working... i thought maybe they were dissapearing ... He was real testy to get him to work like that. Originally I wanted him to fire a warning shot, then run. But he just wanted to fight til the death then, so no shots

    SCHWAA

    spoiler:
Actually your horned beasts were acting really weird. Even if they did or did not see me, they would turn around and run for no reason then walk back. Then turn and run again. Run like how a civilian would run when he spots you. I mean... I was FAR away from him and the gem was COMPLETELY black so there's NO WAY he could have seen/heard me.

The first one I met was close to some wooden structures (no apemen around). I tried to Blackjack him but he fired a completely harmless shot and then ran off, disseapering and leaving a cloud of gas.

    Yay!!! How fun!!! I likey!

Ack! All text deleted itself. Guess I'll start over.

I really enjoyed this as a designer and a player - very inspiring work, schwaa. I only had one issue and I don't know if it's the game or my computer (prolly the latter).

    spoiler:
When I get to the second floor of library via the stairs by where Elizabeth patrols it begins to skip badly. I quit the game out of frustration right after I found Thomas because I was sick of getting stuck in the upper room by the waterfall. Everytime I turned I would be facing a wall or book stack instead of the door. AAAAhhh!

Any tips on how to fix that? I figure it has something to do with memory.

Back to the point, though, I think you did a very fine job here. And now I will be attached to your back like an annoying nOObie monkey asking for help for eternity. MWAHAHAHAH....oops. I didn't mean that, I would never become annoying.

yeah CoK, he's kinda buggy. Not really much I could do. I tried many ways to get him to act like I wanted and that's as close as I got.
    spoiler:
You're not supposed to catch him, he's the trickster

Caradavin, I suppose it would maily be your computer if you were in the large area of the library. The frame rate gets fairly low there, i had actually redisigned it quite a bit to lower the polycount. my framerate was about 16 fps until I redid it, now its 20 in all but one corner by the table.

I'll be glad to help out, you just have to do more voice acting, OK?
BTW everyone, she's the funny shroomin keeperette (and Elizabeth in the intro)

Let me be the first to say this is a great mission. The concept of Garrett as a skeleton was hilarious. Anyway i've a few questions. I have the Trickster ruby and emerald but i can't seem to find the other gems. I am playing on easy. I got a fly and took it to the wizard a potion appeared on the bed but i can't take it. I've found 3 secrets.

    spoiler:
Am i right in guessing that by finding the 3 gems they can bring Garrett back to life?

    Thanks.

Com's Blade is one of my favourite FM's, and this new one sounds amazing. I can't play it though!!!! I'm going overseas for 3 months, but i'm hoping to come back to some brand new FM's and to play them all in one stretch!!!
I'll see you all in 3 months.
    Happy Taffing!!

    Gems:
    spoiler:
won't bring you back to life, but provide easy travel across the mission

    As for the potion:
    spoiler:
Frobbing the potion after finishing all other (non-optional) objectives brings you back to life, and ends the mission

    Thanks schma.

I was hoping i would have found it by now but does anyone know where the 3rd gemstone is? I have the ruby and emerald. I am assuming thomas only arranged for you to be killed and didn't kill garrett himself because i just killed thomas and the first objective is still on.

The third gemstone......the sapphire, is in the apebeast area. Specifically, it's under a bridge that goes through a hole in the foliage, connecting two areas. You can vine arrow up to the bottom and hop under the bridge.

As for Thomas, you have to drop him on his bed for the objective to tick off.

    Fantastic mission, schwaa...!
