Better yet, what if it's actually that situation reversed? You recall in Deus Ex, of course, that the Morpheus and Deadalus programs were designed to 'sift through the sands' of the Internet as defence programs.... what if this is something similar... and the Narcissus Entity is exactly what they really are: a group of humans. And the Cassandra Project is their way of 'training' the new programs capable of semi-sentience (either percieved by the program or actual) into doing exactly what they're designed to do - search through the internet for threats and such against certain groups... say... the Benefactors? (who may infact be the Narcissus entity in disguise.)

I just realised how totally whacked out paranoid conspiracy theorist that makes me sound - but hey, I just read that a similar theorey was proposed as a reason for the Matrix before Revolutions came out... (And how funny would it be to have a PM from Brem in my inbox telling me to shut the hell up and stop spoiling Cassandra....

Well, if that really is true, then I just gave them a really nice one. (well, in my (not so) humble opinion, anyway). Of course, The Narcissus Entity would say it had been too busy controlling an outbreak of pan-dimensional thought in another quadrant to work on an actual storyline for TCP. Or something similar. (Remarkable just how easy it is to imitate 'perfection'.. heh)

My only complaint for part one is that the weapons are too good. I spent way too long working out which ones to take! If only I could somehow increase my inventory size . . . I know it was a concious design idea, but it still annoys slightly. Oh well. Thanks for a great mod.

    Cool Mod!

It's great from every point of view, I liked the "Seeing trow walls thing" (Like in DE2:IW)
altho the speech is not so normallized, the main character is talking to herself, or way
to loud or way to silent, and that brakes me off..

I can't play it a night without waking some1 from my family...

The overall is good, I really can't wait to see part 2!

    Good Job dudes!

Wasn't that seeing though walls thing in Deus Ex? I distinctly remember combining it and a LAM to make a real mess of Gunther...
Cassandra's fairly great and having to think really hard about your weapons just feels right (Rubber bullets! Taser darts! Sonic and KO grenades! Huzzay! A pacifist's paradise!). I can wait for the Sneaking out in the countryside, but only just.
However, there are downpoints. The loss of those big blue letters is painful, though ("Thou shall not tell me that you're loading" - ha!). And has anyone made that Looking Glass Style basketball shot? Even in System Shock all you had to do was hit the backboard but here, oh my no...

I've never made the basketball shot either.

I'm reliably told by the level designer that it does do something if you manage it, however.

I cant remember to be honest, I think there is a class proximity trigger in there that sets off a message like in Hells Kitchen. Nothing very exciting I'm afraid.

I nearly got the pool table triggers working so it would keep score but it was buggy as shit and the table kept causing BSP holes.

Well it makes it so that the conversation between the guards change.

    Oh yes. I added that.

I noted Cobb set a flag on the map, so included it in a reference in Conedit.

Provoked by CIM's posts I decided to take on the Danger Room without ranged weapons as well and made it.

I'm only going to tell about what I did different than him.

I found out that after investing in stealth, computers and low tech weapons I still had enough skill points left to increase demolition to trained.

Room 1: I didn't even have to knock out anyone. Just passed through like a shadow.

    Room 2: Nothing worth commenting.

Room 3: I got myself killed 4 or 5 times before I managed to come through, but when I finally made it I didn't even get a scratch.

When I climbed out of the tunnel my demolition skill allowed me to disarm the grenade. That was nice. I was crouching all the time and the guy in the watchtower didn't notice me at all. I sneaked all the way to the far left (I considered the "house" to be "in front") hoped out of the tunnel, activated my speed mod and sneaked to the fence. None of the guards seemed to notice me, but I was close enoug to make the turret active. When the guards were down I just walked through and waved goodbye to the blind guy in the watchtower.

Room 4: Here, in the dark room, I discovered that the enhanced vision didn't drain any hyperadrenaline! Lovely.
Well, this room wasn't hard at all. I think it might be possible to beat the room without using any weapons at all. Just run past the guy with the light that goes on when you pass, activate your flashlight, jump over the hole in the ground and you're safe (the guards can't jump over). Or alternatively, you can stick out your riot prod and let the guards walk right into it.

Room 5: I picked the lock and climbed up. I discovered that you have about 3 seconds before the guard in the room notices you. If you have a riot prod it's best to leap forward, land on his head (or something similair) and zap him. With stealth at master level it's completly silent. Apart from throwing your knife to distract the other two guards you can also use the flares you get before entering the dark room.
I also managed to deactivate the LAM before it blew up so I had another greanade I could use in case of an emergency.

Room 6: I hacked computers to deactivate the cameras rather than using my multitool, but that's about the only noteworthy difference.

Well, I finally registered after going to this forum and the other one for a while. Played episode 1 a number of times and a number of ways, can't say I'm as good as you non-ranged-weapons guys though . I love this mod, I like the Zodiac one too, I just hope Narcissus keeps working, it would be a real let-down if this game ends here... Kudos on what you have so far! Peace.

I think that this mod is amazing, it seems like it's the game I have been wanting to play for a long time. The intro scenes seemed a bit low quality, specifically the bus in the intro because of the lack of sound effects from it moving and the sound of the door opening/closing to let her in.

This mod has lots of atmosphere and I think the tone is set perfectly though her narration in the introduction. I like all the characters, or rather how their personalities were revealed through their actions and words.

The guns and equipment are perfect and seem perfectly capable of blowing the crap out of whatever I will be aiming them at, which I still do not know ;-)

"peeling back the wallpaper of history and examine the mould" Sounds tantilising and I can't bloody wait!

    One flaw in the mod

This is an incredible mod, but I have one, pretty bad flaw in it...

The key thingy is heard when you use it to unlock doors. This is a shame.

Actually, I don't really mind, it would just be nice if it didn't.

Btw, KG, it's Joseph Brereton of York. How much too long was my e-mail?

Please don't die!!! *calls for life support* THIS ONE'S GOIN' CRITICAL!!!!!

Okay first off, SUPERB FIRST SEGMENT [EXCEPT THE DISTASTEFUL SEX JOKES] You people have done an EXELLENT service to the mod community. Words cannot express the level of ELITENIESS employed in the development of 'The Casandra Project'. I was completely blown away after playing this for the first time yesterday. Nearly EVERYTHING is better than the origina DX!!!!!!!

What I liked: nearly EVERYTHING the complete LEETNESS package.

What I did not like: [distasteful sex jokes] I sincerely felt that much of the leetness of the entire expereince and atmosphere was ruined by the distasteful jokes at the end. Gary says, " I'd have her sucking cock"
[Casandra Project soldiers helmet insignia] The insignia [!] is not bad in itself, until it goes on the guys helmet, then I was like look, it's mickeymousedorkfag with a [!] on his head. It just didn't go good with the look. [Johnny Casino] was just simply a little silly or stupid. not a big deal at all I just didn't really like the character.

Oh ya did I mention this is the best mod I've played EVER? and it's only one level.

ANYWAY, are you dead? am I wrong or has there been no updates in 15 months? am I missing something?

Huzzah! The Big Blue letters have returned!

    LOADING

And you thought you could hold them back, Mr. Gillen... Muhahaha...

Cassandra appears to have left us. One, slight, consolation is that she did the job she was designed to do - showing people what a bunch of Games Journos (sic) wanted (and want, I suppose) from a game.

I found Steve and Gary to be totally foul but, hey, that's two-faced men for you. It was a set piece to force Nicholas into an impossible position (again or not, depending on how you play through) and to underline Charlotte's sense of insecurity.

Johnny Casino is not just simply a little silly or stupid. Johnny Casino is an idiot. Johnny Casino is a fool and a heretic. Johnny Casino is as irritating as a Black Widow's bite. Johnny Casino needs a good dose of plasma to the face. Johnny Casino only has one woman in his life, and that's his car, for pity's sake...

Just to stress while they were jokes from the characters - as in THEY found them funny - the player wasn't meant to laugh at them. They were meant to be offensive.

I thought it was worthwhile putting men (I knew most people playing Cass would be male) in a situation women find themselves relatively often, and see how they dealt with it.

Thanks for your kind words otherwise though.

I too must say that I found the langauge perhaps a bit over the top at times. Was it in a convo with Bobby Chaos that Charlotte said something to the effect of "Jesus F**king C**k Christ"? I just thought that maybe the dialogue was a little too vulgar on the occasion.

Having said that though, I guess I do see your point about putting the men in the women's perspective of such remarks. If you felt it important to deal with an issue like that, then more power to you! Although I still feel that you can play with fire when using dialogue like that. That was my only major complaint with the mod though, so in the end all is well!

Yeah - but I hope you can see the difference between how Bobby Chaos was vulgar and how the guards were.

Bobby's coarseness is very much a character point, about where he's from and how he reacts to it. In future episodes we'd have seen a bit more about *why* he's such a vile little man.

I tried to be always very careful about Cassandra's swearing, in terms of people's cursing being appropriate for the person in question. If everyone was as vulgar as Bobby, I'd probably agree that I was just being a foul-mouthed whelp. But Emily and Nicholas were always straight, and James, Anna and Jo's swearing was always very different. You wouldn't get Anna to say something like "Jesus F**king C**k Christ". She'd more likely - oh, I don't know - just lightly maim whoever had made her that annoyed.

I entirely agree with you about playing with fire though. But - y'know - we were always up for taking risks to see what happened.

    KG

*I quite like Bobby actually. He's vile, with a tendency towards weakness, but there's a drive there I've always quite liked. And he's a big dirty geek, which helps.

    About the dark maze

I'm trying the dark maze with the Electric Eyes, and a level of stealth. I have the silenced sig, throwing knives and taser darts.

The trouble is that when I try and kill one of the patrolling guards, the others all seem to know what I'm doing and where I am. They come charging to my position and kill me. I can probably take them, but I want to know how they know.

Is this a special rule of the maze - any violence will always be detected? Are these weapons not as silent as I would normally expect? Or is it just a function of my admittedly underpowered stealth skill?

By the way: Nice mod. Lovely. Full marks.
