    Opinions on Characters?

Narcissus is a nosy bugger. We were wondering what people made of the various characters - who do you like, who don't you like and - perhaps most importantly - do you have a favourite.

    Just interested.

They're all brilliant, but the doctor wins it for being not only out of his head but also brilliantly acted.
Emily strikes me as a disturbingly organised nutter and therefore someone to stay away from, I haven't really got a feel for the boss from whats been released, Anna scares me, BobbyChaos and Jo are fairly amusing and overall they're great characters.

Chaos 3.2 is hillarious at times, and probably the most realistic of all the characters. Johhny Casino is a character I would love to love, but can't, as I can't get over the fact that he's JC Denton. Sorry.

    I love the doctor.

They are all good. Of course, they are all extremes of people, so they have that comic book hero\action TV character style feel to them, that might be viewed as a bit brash in other mediums. In video games, however, we need these sort of characters to progress to greater depth.

Mr. Bobby Chaos seemed the most likable. The doctor and Jo were good too. The others you don't really get the complete picture of, so far.

I'd agree with AS, although Emily isn't the one I'd avoid - Nicholas is. something I can't put my finger on makes me very .. how to put this .. worried about him. Probably no more than my ingrained, psychopathic mistrust of authority figures.

Also, as an experiment, compare the characters in game to their potted Made-for-TV-movie backgrounds presented on the site here:

    http://www.deusex-machina.com/cassan.../personnel.asp

There's more than a few differences between them. Some are deliberate, some accidental.

The doctor is extremly likeable, and the only person who doesnt sound one bit like he's reading his lines from a piece of paper. (not to say that all the voice acting is crap, but everyone else is shaky)
Bobby is dangerously like a friend of mine, but without the long hair and with politics beyond "Linux Roxorz".
Probably the only one I'd go for a drink with.

Jo, well I dont think I'd like her too much personally in real life, but as a character, she's excellent.

I really liked Anna's frankness when you ask her about the CP team.

I'm not entirely sure about Emily, and keep changing my mind about the boss.

I also liked the Guard who was watching MTV, to hear some lies for a change.

    I assume we're talking about channel 4.

Anastasia's my favorite so far. I thought what she said about weapon choices was interesting and true. She seems oddly realistic to me.
3.2 has his moments, of course, but is altogether an unoriginal and overused character. That makes it hard for me to like him.
Emily is an interesting character, but not very likeable, at least in real life.
Nicholas seems rather standard to me. I don't have much of an opinion on him at the moment.
    The doctor is cool.
Johnny Casino reminds me of "Jimmy" from the Seinfeld episode of the same name (Jimmy referred to himself in the 3rd person - "Jimmy's going to get you for this! Jimmy holds grudges!"). "Johnny Casino is a cool guy."
    Debbie is amusing.

I had a root through Emily's drawers (my, my) and now like her a hell of a lot more.
    ahem.
I forgot about debbie, but i think she's a great idea.
I would like it if the guards and nurses weren't just guards and nurses, but more individual, even if it just meant names and more unique sound bites rather that them all talking about the new g36.

Johnny Casino, well he wasnt in it enough to have a real opinion, the thing about him is, everything that people say about him makes me want to really like him, but he himself seems so far, kind of boring.

Go on over to the Spoilers thread and explain yourself. What's in there that changed your opinion of her?

Thanks. Honestly, we've spent so long, so close to all of this, trying to second -guess what the players are going to think that we really enjoy reading you spell it out for us.

I tended to think that throwing a whole base of unique guards at people would be cheerfully bewildering - though we do dilineate a few threads and personages. The assorted Nurses, the guard with his "door", the gent in the toilet and the two front-door peeps will all have small roles to play, some more so than others.

    Boogie.
Thats what I had in mind, I meant things like when the two nurses are talking about the head nurse, Id' like to see which of the other two nurses is the head nurse.
Mainly though, I was just talking about some people being named, like the rookie, and the guy watching mtv.

Oh yes, there were 2 guards in the kitchen talking about someone (presumably the Chef) being nasty to (someone).
I hope we meet this guy, he sounds like a nutjob.

You need to go and look at those conversations again.

I think I wasnt being clear enough (I was tryin to be very non-spoilerish), although I did go back and have another look.
The two nurses in the Med-Bay are having a conversation about what one of them has done with Doctor Spake (and she's hugely embarassed), at the end the other one makes the point that the head nurse, is "...called the head nurse for a reason"
When I said other two nurses i meant theres two other nurses in the building, the one in the doctors room, and the one who wanted to watch a documentary.

The two guards in the kitchen are talking about someone putting huge amounts of salt in Emily's food to see if she'd notice, I was wondering who this person was.

I have spoken with Charlotte after her first visit to Cassandra and can report on initial impressions of her new co-workers. First she found Anna to be competent and professional. She felt she could work well with her. James, the doctor, seemed OK as well despite his strange affectations.

She initially found Jo, Stuart and Johnny to be overly-precious, self-indulgent twits who were too unprofessional to be of any use in a crisis. However, after further talk with them and with Anna she has modified her opinion. She now feels they are overly-precious, self-indulgent twits who might be of some use in a crisis if they can focus long enough.

However all this is secondary compared to her feeling about Richard. At first she believed his story about Cassandra being a better place but the act of installing a 'killswitch' without her prior consent has changed all that. This blatant act of treachery has changed their relationship from empoyer/employee to master/slave--and Charlotte hates being a slave. She will shuffle, nod and grin but she will remove the slave collar from her neck.

Her goals at this point are:
    1. Remove or disable the killswitch.
    2. Kill the bastards responsible for installing it.
    3. Find out who is funding Cassandra and why. If they are culpable in installing the killswitch, they must die as well.
    4. Seek out allies who may aid in the above program (and provide employment after Cassandra is defunct).

With regard to 4., she has some ideas. First she would like to seek out Dr. Jaime Reyes who is mentioned on adrenaline patches also known as bio-cells. Apparently he works for an organization known as UNATCO (United Nations?). She has also heard that the Illuminati is still active. The tongs in Hong Kong are reputed to have advanced technology. Perhaps corporate sponsership--VersaTech would be a prossibility.

Can I stress that this one's actually a bug. If all goes to plan, you should find the Biomods spookily replaced with the Hyperadrenaline patches at the start of part 2.

    Bloody bugs.

Ahhh, LeTharge, could you mark spoilers? I hadn't finished the level yet . . . :-(

I really really liked Jo and the doctor. It's nice to see some intelligent people go beyond the obnoxious-geek and hot-babe-who-is-supposed-to-be-a-scientist-but-doesn't-talk-like-one. :-) BobbyChaos was obnoxious, but in a believeable way. (but is there some way to turn his music off? or perhaps make that sound clip a little longer, and therefore less repetitive?)

Ana was great, too -- I think I like her the best, as a person. What would be really cool is to have a mission where the two of you work together on some things.

Cassandra's voice seems a little . . . forced to me, in places, but that's okay.
