    XIII

Has anyone here played this yet? I've almost bought it a couple of times but have ended up picking up something else instead. I'm suprised that it hasn't been mentioned on GG since its release.

VIII? Or do you mean XIII?

    XIII I assume.
I bought it for the PC when it came out. It's good fun, good action and some stealth that suprisingly doesn't suck. It certainly isn't deep, just a shooter with some unique things like the popup boxes when you headshot someone or using furniture to knock enemies out etc.
For those in the UK I was in GAME yesterday and saw they had XIII for £19.99 (all formats too, I think) which is a steal.
Well recommended I look forward to the sequel which is set up in the last few minutes

Kind of like a 24 plot twist, huh?

Well I'm working my way through it although a buggy quicksave feature isn't helping me much.

It isn't buggy, it explains it in the manual.

    I don't read manuals.

edit: No, it doesn't explain it actually. It says yes, you have checkpoints from which you play from in retries, but it doesn't say anything about the function of the Quicksave. You press it, but you can never load from that point, it takes you back to the start of the level which is extremely irritating for example in the stealth alarm snow base level.

I'm curious, is David Duchovney's (sp?) voice in the game, the way it is on the TV commercial? He's got a curiously young and dead-sounding voice for the way the character looks, IMHO. I'd imagined it would be more like the captain from Sealab 2020.

Yup, David Duchovney does the voice for XIII in the game and in the commercial. He does a great job at it, but I do agree that the voice doesn't really fit the way the character looks.

    David Duchovney, eh?

Wow. What an ending. I mean, I didn't really see it coming and a 'to be continued' tag...

Well, I'm sure impressed. I really enjoyed it. It had fast pacing, great music, not half bad voice acting (even if Duchovny was miscast, Adam West more than made up for it), and it had a crack-along plot (much like an episode of 24 actually). I wonder if they'll make a sequel ... oh well, it's all money in the end I spose.

The multiplayer modes look interesting. There's a funky one about Death running around and you have to kill him, sadly, no co op.

Boy am I glad I reread this. I spent the whole game trying to figure out the general's voice. Duchovny was easy to spot, but that general...just out of reach. Now I can sleep.

French publisher Anuman is making a new game based on the XIII franchise. My prediction? It will be point & click adventure game, since Anuman are the modern day incarnation of Microids.

Well there's some interesting news that I wasn't ever expecting to hear!

As it happens I just recently played through XIII for the first time, so I'd definitely be up for some more of it. (I'd hope for a sequel to pick up from the cliffhanger, but the article doesn't make it sound like that's the direction they're going in.)

I remember a couple of months ago someone on another board mentioned they had just bought "XIII-2". My jaw dropped as I saw a sequel I never knew existed... only later did I discover the guy was referring to Final Fantasy!

iPad/phone? Yeah, sounds like adventure game is a strong possibility.

The remake is looking niceish. Developer seems to be Ukrainian, so there's some promise there.

Woah, I remember playing it on the original XBOX. Never finished it, but it was fun. The comics are pretty good, at the beginning anyway. I haven't read the latest ones.

Edit: this trailer gave me vibes of honest trailers xD Looks neat! I might get it since I'll be getting the ps5.

Gee, this a blast from the past. I can't recall much from the game apart from cell shaded art style and some comic book like close ups of kill shots, which was unique and really its strongest selling point at that point in time.

I never read the comics but I had fun with the game and played it all the way to the end. The cell-shaded aesthetic was executed well and even the stealth levels weren’t too frustrating, and I get frustrated by stealth sections easily (quit Return to Castle Wolfenstein at the first stealth level for example).

Great game I want to play it now. I am very glad to see it here. If anybody played it please let me know how much enjoyable is it?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJU0lA-rkwA is another, different trailer.

I think that the original game made more of the visual style, and I reckon it looked better for it.

I imagine it's still a fun game to play, though.

Re "I think that the original game made more of the visual style, and I reckon it looked better for it."

I'd have to agree. It's probably one of those rare examples of where the original actually looked better in some ways than the remake. Having just watched a few youtube videos of the original for the sake of nostalgia, the game has really aged well and I might get around to re-playing it one of these days.

Looks like the gameplay has a nice 2000-era feel to it, which I'm digging. I also think they could lean into the celshaded aesthetic more. Sure it's not as novel as it was when the original came out, but it's still fitting for this game I think.

Also is that Duchovny reprising his role in the trailer Shadowcat posted? Or did they get a soundalike?
