    Finished.
    spoiler:
found the hammer. I had forgotten about the clue about the machinery. I had already found the 3rd piece of evidence and tried it on the table but I had to drop it a few times to make it work. Sometimes that happens. The hammer took a few tries as well.

This mission was fun and very well done. I give it 7 hammers. Clues well placed and not too difficult. Great use of a small space.

    Excellent mission

I was totally immensed into this FM.
The note about checking out the generator and hearing the clanking noise made me investigate a closer look and to my surprise another clue!
What mystery and the original thief feel.
The rafter sneaking with inaccessable doors below was a great treat and with great satisfaction.
Nice touch with the architecture as like the ceilings in the engineers quarters and alike.
The music gave an overall great feel just like the last few FM's released.
The metal age ambient sounds never did have the zest of the original.
I thought i was stuck before another AI appeared by the elevator and he almost saw me taffing down the hall.

    Totally awesome man
For something you cooked up on a old computer at a family visit, reveals great imagination and escape from bordom! Ha ah

    thanks

I am a half hour into it (and DYING TO HIGHLIGHT THE BLUE here, but shant) and I must say its beautifully designed. I so missed the Hammer musing and the T1 sounds. I am loving this!

    Morrgan: daaaamn! Good job!

I'd love to stay and talk some more, but I have a mission to complete...

Vigil & Sir Lance Thank You!

I had the right evidence but wrong table!!!!!
    spoiler:
I was trying to use the table in the small office off the library up the stairs.
Once I found the right table I was able to finish the mission thanks to you all.

    Where's...

    spoiler:
    the notes from the mistress?

Nice work, Morrgan. You deserve a pat on the back for that one.An original and engaging plot is a rarity these days. Much thanks.

Great job Morrgan! I loved the rafters bit. One of my favorite techniques it to plop down behind a passing guard and knock 'em out. The only thing that bugged me a couple of times was T1's weirdness with rope arrows. *jump, bounce, jump, bounce, jump, bounce, jump, fly up the rope apparently without actually grabbing the rope, fall, hurt myself, jump, bounce, jump, YAY!* That said, you did some amazing things with the T1 engine!
    spoiler:
The burning note and the cutout book for the note were awesome!

Thanks for a great mission morrgan.

It's good the see that someone still does FMs for the good olde Thief 1/Gold, it just has more suspense in it. The world seems darker, more dangerous and somehow more believable.

I'm almost done this one and I just wanted to post and say "Thank you", Morrgan! It's a terrific FM and it's nice to play a TG mission again. I've always loved the atmosphere of that game the best.

    I especially liked
    spoiler:
being able to sneak around in the rafters and attic. That's always a blast. Crouching up there then silently dropping to the carpet behind an unsuspecting guard to BJ him is great fun!

I love when awsome FMs seemingly come out of nowhere
An instant Thief 1 classic, I only wish it went on for longer! A great murder mystery- I just beat it a couple days ago and I already feel like playing it again (maybe I'll try to ghost the whole thing on my next play through...). Great job! Wow, Curse of the Night Falcon and now this just a couple days later. To all FM authors- keep the great FMs coming!

Morrgan, a question... some of the hammers (2 or 3) were actually haunt skins (although they were in all other respects normal humans). Was that intentional on your part, or is this some strange quirk of my TG installation?

  14. #64
Hmm... now that you mention it: I remember the Hammerite in the library looked suspiciously like Brother Murus

But I didn't encounter any haunt "skinned" Hammerites, so I guess it's something with your Thief installation.

    Please?

Where are the notes from the mistress?

I am playing on expert and I have completed the objective of reading and then destroying the letters from the mistress, I have read in the previous posts that once that is done
    spoiler:
an additional guard will appear with the Engineering key
this has not happened and I don't now what I need to do to be able to continue the game.

It is not finding or destroying the mistress letter. It is finding another letter. Morrgan explained what it was in a spoiler above.
    spoiler:
It is a letter to Merlon. Look very carefully in the priest's quarters.

Yandros: Sounds like something went wrong with your TG installation. There are three Hammers that use the Haunt mesh, but they were supplied with a new guard skin from the original game (that was never used, but fitted the Haunt mesh). They are Brother Nattacus' escort.

Somewhere along the line, that skin obviously didn't get extracted properly. Check the mesh/txt and mesh/txt16 folders for a 'spook3.gif' file after Returning a Favor has been installed - the skin will look like a very red Hammerite.

Thanks, Vigil... I'll check it out when I get home. I looked through those folders already and noticed the one in \txt.... but I think there was another one in \txt16 which was a haunt skin, but with the same filename, so it may have taken precedence over the one in the mission ZIP. Not sure where it came from, probably Daemonite's TG skins upgrade. I'll post again tonight when I'm at the computer I played it on, and provide more details... shouldn't be hard to figure out what the problem is.

A true gem of a mission.
    The problem is choice...

I had the same problem as Yandros (and I also have Daemonite's patch...) but otherwise it was just perfect - atmospheric (hell, it's T1, it's gotta have atmosphere), immersive, and just good fun. Congrats and thanks, Morgan!

Again, thank you all for the replies.

Unfortunate that there's trouble with the skins... I assume Darkloader just doesn't overwrite files that already exist in the folders?

    spoiler:
The mistress' letters are in a secret compartment in the Priests' Quarters, as is explained in the note Lukas gives to you along with the map and key.

I had much fun playing this mission. In fact, I paid it the highest compliment I could (short of sending money ): I replayed it on Expert to optimize my movements and then played it again in Lytha style (with an attempt to ghost) as a tribute to its balance and immersiveness. I can't even remember the last time I replayed a FM multiple times upon its release.

Very well done. (You really built this from scratch over the holidays? Amazing!)

I am the same about not usually replaying FMs right away, so that really was a big compliment. Thanks!

I can be fast when I put my mind to it. Unfortunately that happens quite rarely. Morrgan glances at TGG Pt 2 that has been around for more than a couple of years now and sighs.

PS: Let it be known that offers of money shall not be refused.

I'm done but was 350 shy of total loot!!!

Plus I've gotta say I was somewhat disappointed that there was nothing in those chandeliers. There was so much made of the dude lighting them all the time that I thought surely one of the keys or something really important would be up there but I spent hours looking and found nada. Otherwise good but extremely tough mission as far as hidden things go (that is if you don't know about the event triggers because I spent an hour at least trying to figure out what else to do without having that engineer's key yet).
