I think you just answered your own question.
spoiler:OK, i managed to get to Bryon's house, and can't get pass the invisible barrier, where do i go now? back to where i started?![]()
I think you just answered your own question.
Anyone else find this one really almost impossibly difficult? It's hard to tell where the shadows are, and if you're spotted by an archer, you're dead by a single arrow... I got across the street and into that other building, but then I'm at a dead end since my options are a street full of bluecoats (I see a rope hanging way down there, but I'm dead long before I get to it) and a building full of bluecoats. Guess I need to keep playing it and try to figure out where to go....don't get me wrong, the challenge of trying to sneak at daytime is great....just need to hone my skills a bit I suppose.
Yes, i am finding it difficult too.Originally posted by Yandros

spoiler:It's possible to get up to that place where the rope is tangling, via a ladder that is recessed to the right side of the wall. I managed to dash across with my life but the 3 archers are alert now.
Yeah, that one was kind of a pain. I'm not normally a ghoster so I was gritting my teeth a lot. "Gimme a blackjack dammit! I'll go through these shmucks like crap through a goose!" Which I guess was the point. But still, seeing my beloved blackjack and not being able to get to it was just plain mean. BTW, for a little laugh at the end:spoiler:make sure you run through the alley behind the market when you end the mission. Save first, though.![]()
spoiler:OK, I've gotten back to the start, snatched the key. Then what? A hint is needed
spoiler:You need to backtrack yet again, stealing cop's purses as you go. Eventually you will end up at the market. The alley behind it is the place you go to end the mission.
spoiler:I've found it necessary to get the guards stirred up from time to time to get them looking in the wrong direction.
Another tip...It may be dangerous but the assassins arrows the guards have cut both ways. I look around and see more than a few dead bodies. But I didn't do it.![]()
No black jack? Been looking like crazy for that thing.
........ caropr
Well, you can SEE your own equipment on a bed but I couldn't find any way to get near it to see if it's frobbable.
I have to say that I started this mission several times before getting very far and was close to giving up on it but I presevered and ended up quite enjoying it! It's has some very tricky sneaking and you have to alert guards deliberately sometimes to get them looking away from where you want to be but it was interesting. I finished with no damage and just a bit short on loot. I don't think I'll be going back to look for the rest, though.![]()
i still can't finish this one!
my compliments to those who have!![]()
Don't give up, raetsel!![]()
Here is how you get across that alley way with the rope hanging down without alerting the guards:
spoiler:When you are looking straight ahead and the alley is in front of you, to the left there is a house with marble floors and a pool inside, there are two guards there, inside that house are stairs, in the left corner going up 9I just make a run for it since its dark and they can't see you), once you get up just follow into the next room, walk down another set of stairs and exit through the door that you will take you right behind the two guard and you can walk without alerting either one since they both have their backs turned.
Hmm...I find this FM terribly easy. Linear and too much straightforward.
You would think that sneaking on daytime would make it tough, but there are so many places with 'shadows' that it's not a big deal. And few times I got seen, quick load helped.
Only place where I got to reload few more times was on that ledge where clothes is hanging.
I finished the mission..I think. But I seem to have had a heart attack and the skull of deth comes up...Is this relly the way it ends ???
Thanks Nightwalker...I went very slowly and the heart is fine.

No.spoiler:Walk into that alley way VERY slowly. If you go too far too quickly, you die. If you go in slowly the mission ends properly.
I have to say I rather liked this one; the first time I've seen a desert environment in Thief. I'm surprised that there were none of ShadowTemplar’s Arabesque AIs to be seen, though!
I had litte enough trouble Ghosting the whole mission, even though I did miss some of the loot.
I feel that the complete lack of ambient sounds detracted a lot from the atmosphere, though, and after just a few minutes of playing, I decided to load up WinAmp in the background and play some of the desert music from Daggerfall and Evil Islands at a low volume, just to break the silence.

I haven't gotten very far here either, tough to get by all those gaurds. No ghost, had to run past, find a door, run in, jump out a window, climb across a luandry line...
I'm lost...
Fun though.
spoiler:your OK so fargo downstairs from the laundryline and behind the hammer guard...you will know what to do...
that's exactly what i did and as far as i've gottenOriginally posted by Schwaa2

edit: yay! finally finished... but have questions:
spoiler:does the stuff on the bed -ever- become accessible & are you ever supposed to be able to open the trap door in the room with lots of bookshelves over by the market?
i played this on normal... i can't imagine expert, eek!
thanks mystery author![]()

anyone else get a "screen complexity too high" error on this level? Happened to me several times. Is this a product of a slower PC? (using an Athlon 750)
yes, it happened to me many times too (was one of my first reasons for giving up for a while)
i really don't think it matters what pc you have - think it just crossed thief limits period
(i have a pentium 4 - 3.06 & it crashed to the desktop quite a few times - from seemingly inconspicuous places - i'd read in the readme that this was a problem a couple places or such, but didn't expect it where i decided to move the mouse around and look)
I ghosted it completely with 1834 / 2050 loot. The sneaking was tricky in places but did not require any heroic moves. I guess the Hammer temple and the clothes line were the two tough spots for me, but they needed only timing and finding the "correct" route.
I am puzzled by the trap door in the ceiling of what seems to be the market office -- bookshelves and stuff. Is there a way in? The shutters by the upper clothesline route from the opposite building do not open. Any ideas?
I also got a crash to desktop, video complexity, in several areas, particularly around the market.
I found the Southwest pueblo architecture and the lack of obvious shadows, which obscured some passages, interesting.![]()
I was on a roof down the alley from the clotheslines. I don't understand why there arespoiler:barricades on the edge of the roof preventing me from jumping off.

I just finished with 21 short of total loot. I'm puzzled about the trap door too.

Edit: About the trap door:spoiler:There is a key under the books on the table, but it is not frobable. Also there is loot in the room the trap door leads to. No one would have found all of the loot.
