    Bow upgrade

Can someone tell me what this is about a bow upgrade? I've seen numerous references to it, but I don't know what it is (well, ok a bow upgrade, obviously), but what does it do, and how do you get it? Or is it all lies....?!

I believe it's a joke poking fun about having to get the "climbing gloves" in the game to climb walls.

Its like needing to get the flippers from the water fairy to swim or getting the boots of elvenkind upgrade from the wizard's tower. The climbing gloves seems a little zelda-esque to a lot of us.

The bow upgrade is available to anyone who can be bothered to go poking about in the Alarus extension.

It's a joke, so old I'm surprised it still runs.

valhallan - it has nothing to do with the gloves, it's much, much older. The Bonehoard level in Thief had a place there was no way to get to - the Alarus extension. The upgrade was supposed to be there. The gloves work nice with this legend, seeing how you could possibly get to that place using them.

Don't listen to van HellSing... he's just a newb who's so frustrated at never being able to find the bow upgrade that now he tries to tell everyone it's a joke.

With Dromed and a mobile starting point, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

No really, the climbing gloves joke really isn't funny in an outragous way anymore, as T3 is supposed to include climbing gloves..

It was originally from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. You must watch it. Watch it. Download it on p2p or rent it. Whatever. You must watch it.

Oh yes, the bow upgrade is real. I recently lost my Thief 1 saves, but wait a day or two and I'll post a screenshot of me clearing the temple area in the RTC (the place where the eye is) with the bow upgrade.

The bow upgrade is a strange looking bow. It is like an assault rifle in thief. It fires fire arrows from an unlimited supply. In a way it isn't an assault rifle, because it can only fire single shots, but the rate of fire only depends on how fast your finger is. You can imagine how easy it is to clear RTC with that thing. That is probably the reason why so many ignore the possibility to use it. There are no motions for the bow though. I guess it was just going to be some sort of an inside joke and the person who did it didn't really want to get into it. Anyway, wait a a day of two and I'll post a screenshot. Perhaps I can upload a save file too, so you can try it out yourself.

Oh man, this is killing me. I've looked at all the old threads about the upgrade and I have no idea what to think. Though from what I've read, it really does seem to be just a joke....but, but....oh I so want it to be true! Is it just a trick on the newbies? *gnash, gnash* There are so many posts about it that it does indeed seem to be an ancient jest.
