Thanks for the report and all the "trouble" you had to go just to get this report for us.

Your report on it sounds rather good, so I hope I will not regret my decision to buy it.

I just read it and I must say... bravo! It was very informative, and I think I'm eager to play it now, if only for the Hammerites

Great review, good balance of objectivity and opinion so much thanks for that.

To me it sounds like a slightly flawed game but it will still be excellent in the areas that count, with some improvements on its predecessors.

Mr-Teatime Can you spend your money on anything other than arrow supplies etc in the city? Like gambling or something?
Digital`Nightfall You can buy practice locks... I don't think you can go gamble, though
Thats disappointing. I was hoping to blackjack in the free-form areas. badabum......tisch!

Er, think i'll be on my way now...

    Good job there Digital Nightfall

    Well constructed

    Informative

And most importantly --- You maintained your objectiveness throughout the report.

That is a difficult type of writing style to draft, develop, and deliver.

Thanks for the info……………….. You Lucky S.O.B !!!

Thanks, sounds like a fairly great game in spite of all the doubt and worry.

Not a single mention of how keys are handled? Feh.

    ZylonBane wins!

They couldn't get the rope arrows to work?? Wow. Perhaps they were going for full swinging ropes. . . that would've been very nice. Nor scouting orbs? Very odd - UT has redeemers, I'd've thought that there was some similarities (minus the nuke effect!).

Sounds the new lockpicking and lock recognition is a winner.

On another note - "much bumpier than what we’re used two in the dark engine" - I think you mean too.

    Great preview! Thanks!

There is one thing I was hoping someone would ask but never got mentioned:

Do mission objectives ever change in-mission (a la plot twists)??

Or he could mean the grammatically correct to
I can't wait to play this game... why must they wait to ship for the 26th when it's ready NOW *chuckles* (Rhetorical question in expression of exacerbation)

*sits tied to a chair while the wife taunts by counting the number of minutes until T3 is released*

    Oh man! I cannot wait.

As soon as I can loosen these ropes...and knock out my wife...and sneak past the kids watching "Spy Kids"...and then go back for the cars keys I shall be purchasing "the game"!

*climbs back onto chair and into ropes before the wife notices*

    Nice work Dan

Sounds good, but i'll be disabling third person i think (well unbinding it) too much temptation to cheat and stop taking risks - which for me is what Thief is all about.

Like you i'm not a flashbomb kind of guy i can count the amount of times i used them on one hand (over the previous games in total), i won't need 'em this time and seeing how it appears that they will blind anyone who even thinks they saw it For similiar reasons i imagine oil and the such will be rarely used. Actually come to think of it i was never even a moss/fire arrow man - it was me, the blackjack, the rope arrows and occassional water arrow. Everything else was rarely used, perhaps i am a Thief minimalist

Digi, your preview report was excellent. You allayed my fears in a clear and objective fashion.

I appreciate all you've done for the Thief community in general and I guess it was your dedication that gave you this well-deserved exclusive.

Knowing that the game will ship in a professional state (ie, relatively bug-free and optimised) is a testament to how Ion have been shaken up from their cavalier attitude with DX2. I hope with its X-Box companion we will all bask in more adventures of Garrett in the future.

It is remarkable how far we've come from that Newsweek game review (does anyone remember it with the inset of the Haunt in the cathedral?) to this latest state-of-the-art game. I'm not sure anyone will criticise TDS for its graphics engine!

Thanks again Digi and Saam - great work. Let us all celebrate on the 26th, taffers and be thankful for the master of stealth - F' Sam Fischer!

I'm the same way, I'll buy up as much stuff as I can... then rarely use any of it. I do like water arrows, but Fire Arrows are so... amateur.
At least now you have to arc them.

Well, we have to give you something to moan about. We can't have you exploding and creating a mess everywhere.

An excellent preview, kudos to Dan!

Reading that alleviates many of my concerns for the game, while sadly confirming others. Loot glint aggrevates me, and I cannot help but think how stupid -- nay, idiotic -- an idea that is as far as I'm concerned. I know some of you think different, but this is just how I feel. I think it's unforgettable that it is not toggleable. Thank goodness Faceless posted a possible solution for its removal, and should Eidos decide to fund a patch, we might see it as an option only. I'm going to miss the huge, sprawling levels that you could roam around for hours on end -- or at least I think I am, because many other things sound really fantastic, and may well make up for the lack of huge missions. I'm still mad that xbox had to force limits upon the PC version, though. Infuriating.

But reading about the atmosphere, the sounds, the story, the visuals (while they aren't that important to me, I'm happy to hear that the game looks gorgeous), and that the game feels like Thief, alleviates much of my frustration and infuriation. Taffing around the City sounds really exciting and a lot of fun: meeting your fences, finding glyphs on the walls, breaking into houses, pickpocketing -- I can't wait!

I hope I can get my PC upgraded in time for its release. Unless I can get the US version of the game, I'll have to wait an extra month to get my hands on the game, while you US taffers gloat about it :P

Thief: DS sounds really good! I'm excited to play it.

To be fair to ZylonBane there were alot of things that Dan said he didn't try. I think he should have tried everything so that we know. That's the point of a review or preview - to inform. I'm not comlplaining but it would have been nice.
