On the contrary, many people have noticed changes. I think revelation2k may be right when he said that it must just be computers or something.

If I had web space that would allow me to upload movies (any takers ) I'd make a short movie of an editted T3PhysicsSound.ini and an uneditted one. I guarantee you'll notice a difference, at least on my machine.

I've noticed a difference on 3 machines now that I've put it on

Hmm, I'm having problems getting the debug menu to work.
I followed the instructions exactly as I should, and I can access the menu, but nothing works.
The up/down arrows don't do anything, and hitting escape does not take me back to the main menu.

It seems that using the menu is locking up the game.

*bump* Lots of extra tweaks in here that didn't make it into the official guide. Any chance we could get this stickied?

    Hi y' all--

I'm sorry if this has been posted/asked before, but I'm experiencing pretty strange problems, and wanted to ask if that's my ( my PC's) or the software's problem.

I've got both DX:IW and the Thief3-Demo installed. The FullVersion follows sometime next week, I just need the time to go shopping.

So now, Some days ago I dl'ed the latest ForceWare-Driver 61-something.
As DX:IW-performance was boosted dramatically I decided to replay the Thief3-Demo...
I started the game with a savegame from the CastleFront, and what do I see? First of all, some very strange graphical problems, hard to explain, but not of utmost importance. Then I try moving and running around, and everything seems okay, but ( here it comes..) everything's "retarded"...like a MouseLag...I am by now used to running 3d-games at 800x600 with medium details, just to have it "flowing" -not like a framebyframe-analysis of the game. Well, I kinda got over it and played on, but what I really dislike is the MouseLag when picking locks. The pointer stands still, and I move around with my mouse...after the lag, the pointer goes where I want him to be...and this is somewhat annoying, ALSO because it hadn't been there before!

Now I tried minimizing everything, resolution, shadow details, LOD, everything- no change. The game runs just as "fast" as before. And this I hereby classify as

"strange"- Why can one driver boost performance on a game with almost the same engine and leave the other unchanged?

What can I do about it, and when I buy the game ( which I will certainly, having played GTA3 and Morrowind on a PIII500 with 128MB of RAM and a GF2MX), what are the improvements the 1.2-patch brought with it?

    My specs:
    P4 2.53GHz
    512MB RDRAM
    GeForce 4 Ti 4200 ( bottleneck?)
Win Xp-Prof ( doubt this info is of any use)
    ForceWare 61.something

Don't even think about it, I have turned everything off, no AA, no AF, no VSYNC, no apps running in the background, nothing.

I considered buying a new graphics board, but I guess this'll have to wait. Why? Cos from October 4th till somewhen mid2005 I'll be AWAY, so there's no sense in owning a DX9-graphics card when you can't use it.

i downloaded T3PlayerAnims.zip from someone in this thread so I could get faster leaning and some other usefull things(but he had it from the demo) but I installed it and now it seems garret is always on ice... so I was wondering if anyone else has a working T3PlayerAnims file with better things

Here's a tweaked T3PlayerAnims.ini that tries to alleviate this.
Always back up your original .ini files before taffing with them, you know.

    Changes made:
    - Slower head bob -> Less motion sickness, softer walking.
    - Faster strafe transitions -> Better maneuverability (not the best, though)
    - Slightly softer breathing when idle. -> Less motion sickness
    - Slightly slower weapon animations. -> Feels better
    - Faster leaning. -> More thiefy
    - Slower fall recoveries -> No fall damage sucks. At least this should make falling a bit more annoying.
    - Some other minor thingies.

Overall i think it feels quite better. There are lots of tiny changes (overall, movement, leaning and acting are a wee bit slower while crouched, to compensate for the sneaky bonus to crouch). The only thing that bugs me is the strafing, it's not quite allright yet, and turning the transitions to 0 doesn't help much.

I'd like to know if you like these tweaks or make some of your own.

Also, 3rd person movement is NOT changed at all. This means things will handle differently in 3rd person mode, but you can do the changes yourself.
this was the T3PlayerAnims i was talking about!!
BUT I just did the old file back and it STILL feels like im on ice or something im sliding the whole time even if I dont move or anything garret will slide

i had the same problem as Stoned_Bob
my solution was to edit the .ini files and adjust the walking speed back to normal.

By the way, I haven't seen that post about how to eliminate the spotlights behind the items and weapons in the HUD. Someone mentioned how to tone down the electric blue color to a tolerable grey, but I can't find the post about how to remove them completely. I'm sure I saw it a while back. Or maybe it was me who figured it out and I forgot to post it.

Anyway, you can do it by commenting out the lines that say "GlowWindow=ItemBackgroundGlow" (put a ; in front of it) in T3UI.ini under the following headings:

    [NextNextItemWindow]
    [NextItemWindow]
    [CurrentItemWindow]
    [PreviousItemWindow]
    [PrevPrevItemWindow]
    [JunkItemWindow]
    [PrevPrevWeaponWindow]
    [PreviousWeaponWindow]
    [CurrentWeaponWindow]
    [NextWeaponWindow]
    [NextNextWeaponWindow]

Your items will now have no background whatsoever behind them when you scroll through them.

    Default Difficulty

I've tried searching through the old posts to see if I could find this, but I was unable to. Does anyone know how to change the default starting difficulty of a mission? If possible, it would be nice to only have to choose a difficulty once, at the beginning of the game (like in Thief 1/2), but barring that it would be OK if the default was always Expert, rather than having to select it each time at the beginning of a mission. That way, if a friend wants to play on an easier difficulty, he can change it off. I would think that it should be simpler to change the default, rather than duplicating all of the Expert settings into Normal (which then, also, doesn't leave the Normal settings). I tried changing the line "CurrentDifficulty=NORMAL" (to CurrentDifficulty=EXPERT) in default.ini, but it didn't seem to help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.

I'd Like to request a fix for the inverted left and right backward crouching animations for Garrett. Revelation2k you with me?

Sorry if this has been discussed already. I just had a look at the file aicore.t3u.

It looks like there are some references to guard behaviour in this file which are not found in default.ini. These include the guards field of view, sensitivity to multiple pieces of evidence (presumably missing loot, open doors etc..), penalties which are applied to the AIs ability to search successfully if the player has evaded combat situations and is in a dark place etc.. Although, there don't look to be many alterable parameters in this file, just a whole lot of definitions of classes which the variables are to be stored in and some explanatory comments.

So, maybe there is a way to make the guards chase you more immediately and effectively?

I'm not sure if you can edit this file directly because there are a lot of strange looking characters (binary?) in it. You may need a DX2/Unreal tool of some sort to change it (assuming that doing so is of any use) or access the values it defines.

Anyway, I hope someone reads this and is intrigued enough to take a look at the file and perhaps find a way to make the guards smarter, coz' I sure as hell don't know what to do with this info.

Does anyone know if it is possible to enable reversed stereo? There isn't an in-game option like there used to be for Thief 1/2. Any help would be greatly appreciated; anybody who's had it happen know's how frustrating it is to be up against a wall, and see some people to your right talking, but hear the voices coming from the left.
    Thanks.

    Need Sticky For this Thread

This thread has a number of good tweaks, suggestions, changes, improvements, etc., that have not made it into the official "Thief 3 Tweak Guide" thread. Either this thread needs to be made a "sticky" thread, or these tweaks, etc. should be transferred over to the "Thief 3 Tweak Guide."

I'll look through them this weekend if I have time and try to pick up any that I missed. Are there any specifically you can point out for me?

    Paulcoz.

I sure wish I knew what to do with this information. Perhaps there is a way to make guards "hear" lockpicking. Ahhh, that would be nice. I would also love Garret to be blinded by flashbombs again for not looking away. I really miss how the old games penalized you for being a sloppy player.

I'm going to try and replace it with a picture of Garrett's face from the Thief 2/Thief Gold cover (whichever looks best). Failing that, I'll just black it out.

And if anyone would like copies of the .dds files after I'm done, I'll be glad to oblige.
can you send me the modified .dds files

Display Frame Rate - The built in way...

I'm sorry if this has been stated before (this is a big thread) but Thief DS does have a built in frame rate counter so you don't have to use Fraps.

Just get your default.ini file in the system folder and where it says

    StartupConsoleText=

    make it say:

    StartupConsoleText=stat fps

**EDIT ... p.s. and the same applies to Deus Ex: Invisible War ***

I tried using the lockpick graphic thing removal tweak (to make it harder for my own enjoyment) but it wont work... thief (DS) crashes everytime I try it right after the loading screen (b4 the menu comes up)... has anyone done it succesfully... I know the guy who made the minimalist project did... but I dont want all his modifications just this and a few others. If you succesfully did it can you either explain it in detail how or can you just give me your .ini so I can copy it into mine?

    Thanks in advance.

Any chance of a raw list of tweaks in alphabetical order? I want to change specific things but can't find them or they are packaged with other changes I do not want.
    Specifically-
    -faster leaning
    -faster walking
-smaller icons, health bar and compass

    T3Menu.ini

Anyone have a working link to this file? The two I was able to locate on the boards here do not work. Heck if the file's less than a meg I'll turn around and host it myself. I've got paid space.
