T2 FM Heist Society by AsyluM (Nov 5, 2004)

Well folks, after over a year of work by AsyluM, followed by 8 months of work by the Gold Team, Heist Society is finally released!

    ->> GET IT HERE <<-

    Description:
Sources have led you to believe that Lord Gellard, a noble renowned
for his vicious competitiveness, has gathered an exquisite collection of valuable
artifacts and rare gems in the enormous mansion on his sprawling estate in Hightowne.
You're in need of a big job right now to meet certain expenses, so the Gellard
    Estate should fit the bill.

You've heard that Lord Gellard somehow manages to control portions of the city
leadership and aristocracy... getting proof of how he's doing this would give you
something you could use against him, or sell to one of his enemies. Supposedly,
Gellard even has a secret passage from his estate that comes out somewhere in
or near City Hall... finding it could prove very useful.

He is also reputed to have the best guards and security devices around... since he
has close ties to the Mechanists, he has a number of their security devices on the
grounds. Cleaning out the estate won't be easy, but then paying the rent never is...

    Difficulty Info:
There are numerous differences between the difficulty levels:
    - Numbers of AIs and their patrol routes
    - Locations of keys and other important items
    - Bonus objectives
    Also, your starting location varies:
Normal - Just inside the servant’s back entrance
Hard - On the grounds, by the front entrance
Expert - On the grounds, in the graveyard

    Team members:
Alpha / Beta Tester - RiCh
Beta Testers - Nightwalker, Peter Smith

    Gold Development Team:
    Story completion/refinement: Moghedian, SlyFoxx
    Dromed work: Yandros, VladMidnight, Moghedian
    Additional Testers:
Nightwalker, Morrgan, Peter Smith, Dafydd, FreddyFox

Given the significant differences between the difficulty levels, it is imperative that you preface any questions in this thread with which difficulty you're playing. If it becomes problematic, I'll start a different thread for each difficulty, but hopefully that won't be necessary. I do, however, recommend that everyone enjoy this mission on all three difficulties, the experience is quite different.

    HAVE FUN!

    Downloading, downloading, downloading.
It's so easy, but I can't do it.
So risky - but I gotta chance it.
It's so funny, there's nothing to laugh about

    Just a note to Dromeders:

This mission actually exceeds the brush limit by a considerable amount (don't ask me how AsyluM got away with that). You'll get an error trying to open it - just Cancel and it will still open. Also, be advised that the mission is sometimes unstable (read: crashes often) if you don't process_difficulty. Exceeding the limit also means you can't portalize or optimize the mission (according to AsyluM... I never actually tried).

    A silly aside...

Now that HS is done, I decided to open up Circulation of Shadows and work on it some today. Guess what's the date of the last time I worked on it? 11/05/03... exactly one year ago today. I don't pretend to understand the sublimity of coincidence sometimes...

Just one question: In your opinions, does this FM match classic T1 mansion missions like Bafford and Assassins, or the mansions in Running Interference and Blackmail? Or what may be the best mansion to appear in an FM, Lord Saturnine's mansion? If it does, I shall download it posthaste.

    Thunderbolt & Lightning.

I really like this mission a lot. The sound effect is most effective and took me by surprise the first time. I had turned up the volume on my speakers and where blown away at the first rumble. Great!!

    spoiler:
And the auto-map is just superb!!

    Well, on with the game.

It certainly rivals Lord Saturnines Mansion, In fact this may be THE new mansion. I still cant get over the fact that AsyluM gave up on this FM This is no FM its an OM (original mission), well it could of easily have been, no doubt.

I'd liken it more to Gervasius' mansion in Casing/Masks (T2) than Truart's or Bafford's.

Hey Eshaktaar - I guess this is the first FM released that uses your flames, right? I still can't believe how great they look.

    Sweet!

It's kind of hard going through small windows though.

Crashed once on me outside the house on that corner where a single guard is in a little guard house. Haven't had that happen in a while. It was after I saved though. :)

I like how the sentrybot heads are turned off in the library.

    shadows -
    spoiler:
That secret door behind the pedestal is only available on Expert. To get out, you need to get into Lord Gellard's private library and have a good look around.

I downloaded it and I've just started playing on Normal. It's good so far. I dumped a guard in the captain's room after accidentally waking him up (he was the sleeping guard nearby), but I feel guilty about that so I'll probably remove him before I finish.
