    Thanks and Hello

Due to a strong campaign spearheaded by GlasWolf, signatures and support from thousands of fans, tremendous effort from Alex Duran / Jordan Thomas / Paul Weaver from Ion Storm, bughunting and playtesting by Ulukai / David / myself, and an effective though unsung Fifth Column at Eidos by the name of Scott Holbert, we are finally gifted with the tools necessary to create FMs for the third game in our beloved Thief series.

During our time working with various incarnations of the editing tools, Dave, Ulukai, and myself (with significant support from Alex Duran in particular) have assembled this small collection of beginner information.

Please note that we have not gone into detail on basic UEd-related stuff. UnrealEd's fundamentals aren't that difficult, and tutorials are easily found on many editing sites (many resources are linked in a sticky in our own UEd forum)

    So.

    Um.

    Hello.

I'd like to thank all those people too.
Alex Duran was extremely helpful as you can see in some of the threads in this forum. Jordan (null) was great with his posts to the community.

Paul was the guy we spoke to at Ion. He was great, a really friendly guy who answered all of our little emails. If I recall correctly he took over from Warren.
    (I think ¬¬)
And Scott! Our friend over at Eidos did more than his fair share of helping!

    wheeee! It's here!

I do have to say thank you, to the T3 devs, and to you mods for making the tutorials, even though you could have said something in these last several months!

    Anyhoo, thanks.

I'd like to thank everyone involved in this; Alex Duran, Jordan Thomas, Paul Weaver, Scott Holbert, GlasWolf, Dave, Ulukai and Gingerbread Man, and also the fan community who never gave up hope. And jesus.

It's odd, I thought that I'd be all prepared to write a rambling thank-you missive if and when this ever happened. As it is, I just feel euphoric and more than a little relieved. Well done everyone. From a thiefpetition.com point of view though, I want to add Subjective Effect to the gratitude list. He's done a fantastic job in coding the site, keeping the news up to date and writing some excellent articles to put our point of view forward. Thanks SE.

Most important of all though is the people who have driven this campaign from the start: namely the DromEd builders, who have produced work of a consistently astonishing quality for the last 6 years. Doubtless someone else would have picked up the campaign if I hadn't, but my motivation to do so came from being overwhelmed by the tenacity, skill, dedication and artistry shown by these people. This was simply my opportunity to give a little back for all the hours they had spent wrestling with that infernal piece of software known as DromEd.

Here's to the next generation of Thief builders.

    Ahem.

    WOOT!

An extra thanks to Scott for receiving the letters (and the gifts! Deserved), the emails and letting us know what you could.

And thanks to you guys GBM, David and Ulukai. It's been a ride.

I'd just like to thank everyone who made this possible. I can't even imagine the amount of work people like null went through to get this done. And our own TTLG admins, who probably knew more than they could say! Thanks for putting up with a rather graceless bunch of impatient taffers.

    Thank you all!

    Whoa.

I click 'Newsfeed' (on a toolbar I accidentally turned on), and it says there's new messages, so I check them: "Thief III Editor Download Links"

Went 'Huh?*' and clicked on it, in the process noticing a new forum called Thief III Editors' Guild.

    ... I can't really say what I want to, so: \o/

First of all, hello everyone, this is my first post. I'm a former Ion Storm Austin designer. I saw on Blue's news that the T-DS editor was released and thought I'd drop in here. I never expected that editor to go out to the public, so this is pretty cool. Now you all can feel our pain Seriously though, I'm sure the fans will be able to make some awesome stuff with it since you won't have to work under the restrictions we had to when developing the game.

Hello Krypt and welcome to the forums.

And thank you for all your time and effort in designing Thief 3.

    But now...

I'm sure you understand that some of us are dying to hear some specifics regarding these "restrictions."

Hey Krypt! Don't be a stranger. I'm sure many here will be VERY happy to have you around as the editing woes begin. Heck, I'll bethe first to extend the welcome to become one of us, for the long haul. It's a great group here.

Thanks to you and to everyone who made this release happen.

    It's a good day.

The big one was getting a map to fit into the 64mb of memory on xbox. That is the reason why all the maps are fairly small. Since the fans will only be making maps on PC, there are no memory restrictions and you should be able to make much larger spaces with higher res textures, more unique static meshes, more different characters, etc. Also we had to really limit the number of lights and amount of detail in any given scene in the map so the xbox framerate would be decent. Fans should be able to add a lot more detail and do prettier lighting because PCs run the game faster.

That's pretty much exactly what I was hoping to hear. \o/

Thank you for your response! And I noticed you're browsing and posting in the editing area already. We really appreciate it.

I'm curious: Are you, personally, interested in trying to build something outside of those restrictions as a "fan"? Or are you just tired of it all at this point? (That would be understandable. )

Thanks to all the insiders working on this, sincerely!

(I'm just ever so slightly suspicious of Krypt being an imposter...)

But if you're the real deal, good job on a great game!

Nope. I'll probably be checking out a lot of custom maps as the community puts them out, as I'm interested to see what you guys can do with the tools

To my mom, dad and those who supported me through the years I'd like to say thank you. Also, to Eidos, ISA, Null, Faceless, LGS, and the many others who made this editor possible, a huge thank you! Thanks for your hard work in pushing this through

Some nights ago I had a dream - I opened www.ttlg.com and saw: "Thief: Deadly Shadows editor is released!". I remember that I thought: "sure, it's a joke, ugly bastards"
Cannot believe it now - guys, am I dreaming in dreams?
Thank you, guys, I'm happy as little boy when New Year holidays are coming (remark: in Russia New Year is more popular holiday than XMas).

May I also express my gratitude for all the effort and hard work that has gone into making this possible.

People will come to appreciate this even more when all the great modifications and fan levels start to appear.

    Once again, many thanks.

This is certainly a surprise. I wasn't expecting it to turn up so soon.

Still, I somehow knew everyone's efforts would pay off in the end. The thief 3 engine will keep the community going for some considerable time.
